Colorado Game Week Thread

with all the hate on Sims, I found one that wasn't his fault when I was going back to look at a different play.

10 min left in the 3rd quarter, it's 3rd & 3. looks like an RPO where we could have ran for a 1st down, but Sims tried to throw. Kemp was completely uncovered but blocked instead of looking for the ball. Sims had to eat it and took a drive-ending sack

As this week’s president of the Run the Damn Ball committee; we are all “Run the Damn Ball” guy this week. Running the damn ball this week wins you the damn game.
Bring back the option & it might win it this week. Simms is one of our best RBs & he’s good enough to hit an open wr on an option pass. Beating Prime Colorado with some old school Nebraska would leave me with an erection for the rest of September

Hot take… it’s a great call if he had a QB we could reasonably expect to make a good throw and a WR we could reasonably expect could make the catch. I’m not sure we had either.

I see these are just 2023 so I need to figure out how to run a multi year thing… idk what I’m doing.

Before I posted the above I wanted to see what PFF said about his deep passes. He’s not bad throwing deep left. Deep center are his most frequent but hits at a 1 in 4 rate.

On the other hand, that was Tommi’s first and only target!?!?

I posted fairly extensively on this a couple of days ago. He is abysmal intermediate/deep between the numbers. GT only had him pass there 15% of the time in 2021-22. 59 attempts, 38% completion %, 8 INTs (w/out game one this year) Short passes, passes to the boundaries regardless of depth, and passes behind the LOS: total of 2 INTs in 317 attempts.

Obviously, we had to know this when we took him.

Why did we throw about 50% of the time intermediate/deep between the numbers then? Good question, but since Kemp was option 1 nine times per Rhule, I am guessing that is what Sims chose to do.

I completely understand the deep shot on 1st down. it was there with a better throw, although Hill's effort to come back to it wasn't good either

but throwing the next 2 plays was unforgiveable
I was very meh about the shot... I wish we would've got a 1st down first at least. That would have put the ball at mid fieldish

You can toggle years but I don't think there's an option to combine them all without doing it manually.

Was just thinking tonight, Colorado is about to spend all week preparing for stopping the run, and the limited amount I know about football, they’re going to have to dedicate an athlete to either accounting for Sims or Fidone.

This really should be Fidone’s break out game, if he’s getting matched on their 2nd best linebacker, and safeties keep creeping in run support - he should be wide open a ton.

A 4.5 TE against a poor defense who’s already fighting an uphill battle against numbers with a very strong running QB, there’s no reason he shouldn’t go for 2 TDs and 150+

Sounds good and exciting.
But it’s still only fidones 2nd game since high school.

I'll give you three reasons why he won't:

1) Satt
2) Sims
3) Nebraska's porous OL (especially Corc)

You could also make the case that Kemp should be able to have a breakout game too. Lining up in the slot, he would mainly be covered by their Nickelback. Myles Slusher was their starter in game 1, but he had an injury and a minor surgery and is out. His backup is a true freshman, and it would seem like Kemp could exploit him some.

Good call on Kemp too!
