Chryst out

Maybe they’ll hire Mike Riley next and he can fill the spot until their Golden Boy, Russell Wilson takes over to revamp the entire B1G

(Edit: maybe Brooks Bollinger or Ron Dayne would be a better name for their golden boy)

I'm not sure Aranda is as tied to Wisconsin as some people (i.e Wisconsiners or whatever they want to call themselves) think. He came there from Utah State, stayed for only three years, and gladly took the same job at a better place. He spent more time at LSU.

Maybe he'd want to come back, but he doesn't seem like a guy who pines for Madison.

That and I doubt Wisconsin would spend the money that it would take to get Aranda

If you're Aranda... you're from California, you coached recently at LSU and in Texas. You are right where the recruits are right now. No idea why you'd want to take a gig in Wisconsin after that. Again, he's from Cali, he's not from the upper Midwest.

To me, I just don't see how anyone could go from being right in the recruiting hotspots of Louisiana and Texas and then go, 'let me go where there are zero players.' It just doesn't make sense to me. Madison is close to Chicago, so you at least got that. But if I were Aranda I would stay close to where all the recruiting hotspots are.

I am gathering you don't believe we can get him either then

I think the chances are very slim. Unless Turd makes one hell of an NIL sales pitch.

I predict the eventual HC will be a guy who is from the Midwest.

Surprisingly dumb move from Wisconsin. Maybe Leonhard is the guy, but banking on someone w/ 0 head coaching experience to go better than 72% winning percentage is pretty nutty. He's also not super well set up for success over the back half of this season. Seems even more insane to make the move thinking you're getting Leipold, and then you're pretty much guaranteeing loss of Leonhard this year or next.

I don't understand why they'd make a mid season move for Leipold. He is either going to be fine back channeling while he's still coaching, which you could do with Chryst still at the helm or he won't be, which means you can't talk to him until late November anyways

Yeah, I feel like the move is for Leonhard, but that's still pretty dumb. Not going to make Mertz or their OL any less ass-y. Wouldn't be surprised if they went 3-4 over the back stretch

Sounds like Paul Chryst loves Wisconsin more than Scott Frost loves Nebraska.

Leonhard probably gave them an ultimatum. I want to be a head coach next year. It’ll either be here or somewhere else. Easier to make that move after two losses then wait till the end of the year when they’re probably a seven win team.

I don't think Leonhard would do that to Chryst. Wisconsin has finished unranked in 3 of the last 4. Chryst "fixed" the offense in the offseason and it's worse than it was last season, and his best seasons appear to be behind him. Maybe Leonhard being on campus and all of the early season firings made the move happen faster, but it seems more likely they were ready to move on than Leonhard made a power play

Leonhard’s defense hasn’t been very impressive this year either.

That's my take as well. He must have a $5m/yr offer in hand from CU or ASU or someone else and brought that to UW AD.

That's the only reason this would make any sense. Even if you've totally given up on Chryst, I don't see how this changes things that much. Maybe they felt they needed a spark (?).

Just feels like the boosters lost their shit after 2 blowouts in 2021 and 2 in 2022.

How are they going to change the offense at this point? Wouldn't the smart thing be to shitcan the OC?

Leonhard isn't fixing the offense at this point.

I have no idea. I guess you'd make the same argument we did that the head coach was handcuffing an otherwise competent's staffs ability to win games?

Firing a coach in season is going to be the new norm with the early signing period. Wisconsin is a weird situation I agree. Maybe they are like any other program firing coaches and trying to get ahead of it.

I'm just mad because it will probably work out for Wisconsin and I don't want it to LOL. They'll probably come out fired up & wanting to play for Leonhard. He's probably a way more fiery leader than Chryst was.

***Full disclosure: I'm in that subset of NU fans who hate Wisconsin WAY more than they hate Cockeye. I want the Wisconsin program to die a fiery death.
