Busch was on a shit storm team that somehow managed to win 4 games. Put even a C- coach at HC/DC positions and you beat 1-11 NW and GA Southern at home.... and that's 6-6.

So Busch is saying that last year's team was essentially a 6-6 team and the Rhule factor + favorable schedule is worth +2 wins. I can buy that.

I stopped applying logic to Nebraska football however, so I will probably predict 6-6.

Busch always thought Frost & crew were amateur hour
He loves the team & knew the record should have been better than it was
Even last yr he & mick could have easily had them at 7 wins with a couple breaks changing everything after the season started & running simple schemes
Most everyone on the schedule this yr has turnover so his thought isn’t wrong but we have to learn how to win
How they start the yr is key
Don’t go 0-2& don’t get surprised by the 2 home “layups”
Start 3-1 & 8 is in play if we don’t get beat up & don’t lose Sims for any time
But when was the last time we started a season 3-1 regardless of schedule

7-5. But that's at least as much being sick of non-winning seasons as it is real analysis. It would probably take a 4-0 start.

I love me some Busch

I don't necessarily disagree that's it's weird to see Busch make a prediction but I think he's really a unique case where he's getting close to retirement and truly loves the Nebraska.

I get the angle that it might create expectations with fans, but we usually do insane hype without things like this all on our own.

But overall I think he is just bullish on Rhule's ability to get the team to play solid fundamental football and that should win you some games with the schedule we've got.

Its not that outlandish. Nebraska shouldn't have been a 3-5 win team the past 5 years. Thats why we fired our coach, lol. IMO with Nebraska's talent level they should have has had roughly

2018 6 wins
2019 7-8 wins
2020 Weird season Id say 5-3 with the schedule
2021 8-10 wins
2022 7-8 wins

Theres no reason Nebraska was wining 3-4 games the past few seasons

So I have said that I think the 7/8 win area is where I come down at...

Based on last year's team I would have coaching at at least a -2 for the games you cited. So lets use 6-6 as a starting point....

  • Analytically speaking, returning a starting QB is +1 win and returning a Kicker/Punter combo is +1 win (per matrix analytical). The next best areas to have experience is the OL and DB rooms. This is per Phil Steele.
    • Nebraska sits very well in every single one of these categories.
    • Yes, even if Alvano beats out (likely to happen) Bleekrode it is still a positive factor toward your W/L calculation.
    • I give +2 for QB and Specialist combo
  • New coaches analytically are a -1 to -2 in their first year.
    • I went -1 here because....
      • I think Mickey and Busch did a lot to reshape the culture in their short time. They essentially got a jump on year 1 for Rhule and Co.
      • I didn't give any games for OL/DB rooms having a healthy amount of experience returning.
      • Also, if they are good coaches you should see this flip in year 2. It is just common that you lose a game or two to teams you shouldn't in year 1 as you are trying to build.
  • I look at the schedule and you essentially replace Oklahoma with Colorado and you have NIU (Rhule home opener) and La Tech. All three of the non con's are in the 100's as far as team defense from last year with Colorado being dead last.
    • I give schedule +1. I largely think schedule talk is overrated especially considering Nebraska needs to take care of themselves, but do think replacing OU with CU is worth 1 game that wasn't already accounted for.

So that is where I come down at as a 7/8 win team.

I bet the over 6 wins FWIW.

We all know Nebraska is winning at least 8 this year. Dread it, run from it, 8+ win Nebraska arrives just the same.

Minnesota: Gophers start slow, W
Colorado: terrible defense, midgets, easy W
Northern Illinois: W
Louisiana Tech: W

We are 4-0 baby

Michigan: waxes our ass, L
Illinois: L
Northwestern: lol, W
Purdue: homecoming, new staff, W
Michigan State: on the road, L
Maryland: there is no world where Maryland ever beats Nebraska, W
Split Wisconsin and Cockeye

8-4

We do this every year haha. This is a 3-5 win team until proven otherwise. We have marginal talent, lack depth and have a terrible oline.

Get off the koolaid folks. Especially you @slattimer I expect more from you!

Stop doing this to yourselves people.
Go get Zoloft it’s better than crippling depression followed by unrealistic expectations and flattened by depression
It's like you guys have no idea what the central tenets of being a Husker fan are.

15-0.

Has felt like for years that w/ decent coaching we should be able to win 8-9 as target. We consistently shit down our leg, so prob not that easy, but in Rhule we trust.

Lick my butthole Mr. Rollercoaster and get off your period.

****I'm really not that bullish on the season either and think the OL still isn't good and will doom the offense*****
