I mean he’d still be in our offense with our receivers and Satt calling plays

I'm a big Tony White fan but let's be honest....he's completely shit the bed in our last 2 big games (vs Illinois, vs Indianus).

I don't think he has any excuses on those two performances. Are you implying that there's friction between Rhule and White and thus that explains why White got outcoached by Illinois and Indianus?

I'm not doubting you. I'm just saying, TW got his lunch eaten by the opposing OCs in those games.
Sure and today its really hard to say what the issues all were. I know our secondary looked really suspect. It was clear that at no point did Indianus look like they didn't know our defensive calls on each and every play. That means that we were scouted and based on formation and personnel they knew our tendencies cold. And had perfect play calls to punish what we were doing on defense. They also just plain out executed us in every facet. I admit I was shocked at how their Oline just flat out kicked the living shit out of our front 7. I do think Tony is being hand cuffed by Rhule's stated vision to run things like an NFL team. Where there should be one vision and one philosophy we have a compromise which leads to a compromised defense. What DC worth his salt doesn't want to be the one directing and controlling the vision? Time will tell.

Why the FUCK then would you hire a 335 DC if you don’t want him to run his scheme. Fucking moron Rhule is if that’s the case

Correct. Nebraska would have beaten Illinois w McCord. I'd rather have Raiola long term obviously. But McCord would just be balling out here and making our WRs look good as well.

I've watched McCord this year. He's balling out. No hesitation. Very confident. Dylan is a true FR and he's still figuring this out, as you would expect.

My theory and only my theory is someone is in Rhule's ear. The more worrying possibility that occurs to me is Rhule is not even close to being at peace with his failure in the NFL. Somewhere in the off season Rhule had this epiphany that we should only rush the passer with four like the really good NFL defenses do it. Find my post on the interview with Tony where he talked about the "transformation of the defense" per Rhule's vision. I think there is some interesting subtext depending on how you want to read it.

Jeepers!

Are you implying that White had a way he wanted the defense to lineup/execute vs Illinois and Indianus.....but Rhule cockblocked him in each game?

Because if that was true that would be horrific on Rhule. We basically played turnstile defense in both games.

We have enough talent on D where we shouldn't get dominated like we did vs Altmeyer and Rourke.

I would say its more like certain things have been mandated and there is a frame work that Tony has been given to work with. But even with that said Indianus picked up almost all of our blitzes like it was spring practice for them. I do think a lot of credit has to be given to the Indianus coaching staff.

This idea of a rift between Rhule and White has really taken on a life of its own with really no evidence for it other than his defense stinks.

Do we really think that White is going to run something he doesn’t want to do, and Rhule is going to continue to force him to do it, when they can’t even force a punt?

I get that people are skeptical of Rhule but it’s really hard to believe that after the defense bailed him out all last year that he forced White to run it differently, and in a way that White didn’t want, to the detriment of everything he’s trying to accomplish with the team.

Maybe the simpler explanation is the right one: our talent isn’t as good as we thought, White is still a fairly young coordinator with one year of experience in a big boy conference, and as a result they just aren’t as good as we want them to be.

Tony himself said that changes were made in the offseason to match Rhule's vision.

The thing that has chapped me the most over the 2 yrs is that he lobbied for a high assistant coach budget and used about half of it.

Was a yuge red flag then and waving bigger and flappier now.
Yep we were all disappointed after he assembled his initial staff then got suckered into thinking maybe they're all up and comers.

Maybe someone can find those comments to see how sinister they are.

In the other forum people were reading WAY too much into one of the nuggets. I came to the thread late and reading it was completely jarring to see how quickly people had created a huge narrative out of very little info.

The problem with your assumption is that I'm getting this from the nuggets. I was discussing this with other people on here privately long before those nuggets got posted.

Fair enough but sometimes information isn’t correct or filtered or missing nuance.

If something as wild as Rhule forcing White to run the defense in a way he doesn’t want to, and Rhule falling to acknowledge that it isn’t working, is actually happening, then it’s unfortunate that that information isn’t being more clearly conveyed on the insider board instead of just whispers that only some are privy to.

If you've watched the defense this year, they are not blitzing and flying around as much compared to last year with the same personnel, it's like they are thinking more than reacting. Plus, with Rhule making some off the cuff NFL remarks during his pressers, it makes sense. I'm sure we'll get to a bowl this year, but next year, I expect to see that killer mentality and competing closer to the big dawgs vice getting ran over by teams like Indianus and Illionois.
