Are you going to watch the new Game of Thrones show?

Thanks, I've only watched the original series, so I don't know much more than that. I guess this is probably common knowledge for the book readers and the others that have gotten more into the story.
I’ve read the books, but that was over a decade ago. A reread would be nice, but that’s a significant commitment! As is a rewatch for that matter.

the birthing scene and the genital mutilation scene and the pointless sex scene take away from the show

bad writing IMO

otherwise great first episode

Agree 100%. I do like some violence in war/combat scenes but it needs to have some relevance or weight to it.

Those scenes you mentioned had none of that.

Who doesn't though when it is artisticly done?

Didn't watch the leak, but just watched it on HBO Max. Good episode, really good.

So far, this show is the only redemption for weekends instead of Husker games.

I believe the new intro has something to do with a blood magic ritual that Viserys is describing to Lady Alicent in the episode by his model of Valyria. (Fire & Blood)

I am on record as saying that the Catspaw dagger will be used for something else in the current lore. It is a tell that they are showing it front and center in the frame so often.

Some people have criticized the show so far as being humorless. Game of Thrones had comic relief, but this is different because we are watching a slow moving tragedy. The story is serious, tense and sad.

Having the Targaryens speak High Valyrian to each other is a nice touch that all bilingual people understand. The ability to have a private conversation in front of other people is a superpower.

The show is great so far and although there are some slight changes from the book it is an incredibly faithful adaptation. GRRM must be delighted and he deserves to be.

Good for the king marrying the 15 year old, because the 12 year old was just a step too far.
They really handled this awkward situation very well. Viserys never shows any interest in Laena and looks uncomfortable the whole time. The showrunners knew that it would be a huge turnoff to the audience if they did it any other way. Now his choice is what it is, but in the books anyway she was an adult (early 19 or 20) who is older than Rhaenyra. (And they were never really friends)

I think it works good to have them be friends that then will hate each other. Adds another layer to it
