I really liked the first episode, but why did we have to retcon GoT and say that Aegon saw the long winter in a dream and say that that is the family destiny to defend against it? That is just completely unnecessary.

Prophecy has always been a part of the Targaryen story. And much like how prophecy was treated in Game of Thrones, sometimes they get the interpretation right and other times not so much.
I get the feeling the dagger (you know the one) has something to do with it as well.
