Age question

I’m 35 and really focused on getting in shape this year mainly just to be a better hunter at high altitudes. Lifting more and feeling better than I did at 18. Run 4-5 miles every other day and lift in between those.

I focus on my diet a ton, eat 10oz venison/elk steaks every other day on lifting days and on running days stay lower on calories and focus on grains and greens.

I’ve lost 95 pounds since March.

Congrats on the weight loss brother

Honest question, if you’re 30 and above why tf you powerlifting? Seems like an easy way to destroy your body. I did enough lifting age 14-19. Im done with that shit
Honestly? Hitting a PR in any of the 3 lifts gives me the same rush that pitching in an intense game used to give me. I’m a naturally very competitive person and powerlifting in general is the only thing I’ve found that gives me that same rush

I'm 72 but thanks to great Nebraska pioneer genes and keeping active both in mind and body I've avoided most of the old age issues. I walk 2 miles 6 days a week and play golf once a week year round.

The two worst enemies of your body as you age are excess weight and inactivity. I've avoided significant blood pressure issues and Type 2 diabetes but those are the big ones you don't want.

I still see my doctor regularly and we try to nip things in the bud before they become an issue. Still, doctor visits become more frequent just because of things like cataracts, declining vision, prostate issues and prevention of more severe problems. I joke that you know you're old when you have to plan your vacations around your doctor visits.

Finally, a bit of advice from my grandpa. Never let an old person live in your body. A lot of aging gracefully is attitude even when you're dealing with health issues.

Fair enough, and i get what you’re saying. But lifting was always the annoying part of sports. I got a rush from the game, not lifting. Slow pitch softball dad bod gang here

Lol no worries I’m not too far behind you. My wife says I have a dad bod. Didn’t care about lifting during high school and early college. Had abs at the time and just cared about flexing those all the time

Not a power lifter but I lift because being stronger makes so many things easier. Working around the house, moving a deer around, putting my ice fishing sled in my truck, putting up a tree stand, picking up my 80 pound 8 year old because he fell asleep on the couch, for someone who just started lifting hard 6 months ago it’s amazing how much shit is easier.

@Pipe Line didn’t you say a few months ago you had sleep apnea and your pants size was like a 38/30 or something?

And now you’re telling me you can’t touch your toes?

Brother you gotta mix in some normal workouts into your routine. You gonna be dead before you can legally be POTUS.

i asked @pipeline what he did for a living because i was wondering if he did any functional work or played basketball or flag football anything like that.

im a weightlifter too, im 31, 6’2 280 lbs and i would say very active. my back never hurts so im not sure what to tell @pipeline other than the fact it is definitely not because of age.

47 here and I played basketball for the first time in about 10 years... Man, I forgot that basketball cardio shape is way different than any other type of cardio shape... Good lord, 30 seconds in and my chest was burning and I was thinking about intentionally fouling just so I could call for a sub!

Pants size is correct, although 36 long. I'm 6'. My waist size isn't that big, it's my hip structure. Genetically I'm wide in the shoulders and hips. Would make a terrible body builder because of it. I've never been able to touch my toes. In college I was around 205-210 after putting some weight room size on and I still couldn't. Just for some reason have never been flexible enough. Was miserable at the toe touch with the box measurement deal in Elementary School. I did focus on a lot on yoga and actually my goal was to touch my toes when I was like 20 or something while still lifting hard, got like 90% of the way to my toes but still never could. I don't know about the sleep apnea thing lol my wife says I probably do but she thinks any issue someone might have is a medical issue. I do sleep extremely well though cause I do a lot of stuff during the week.

I do play some flag football with the boys yeah. I'm a "lineman" in flag football when we do play. I would say one of the main reasons I lift as heavy as I do is because my dad turns 60 in a few days and he physically can't do some of the things on the farm that he'd like to all the time so I do feel like I need to be that strong arm for as long as I can be.
