Glad he’s gone. Locker room energy caused him to throw 4 picks against Purdue, ok, idk maybe a 3-time captain would go out & lead the team. This guy’s whole career is one excuse after another.

Breakdown
• Broke his jaw on the first drive of the Michigan State game. His life sucked afterward. Drinking steak through a straw. Felt like if they would've won that game their season would've been completely different... said "we're basically the same team." He'd never say bad things, but def salty vibes from the special teams snafu.
• Michigan game was the most fun he's had playing in a football game. Thinks Aidan Hutchinson is impressive, but not THAT impressive. Ref told him after the fumble that he didn't know why no one blew the play dead, but it's not reviewable.
• Poor locker room energy in the Purdue game, although he doesn't attribute the loss to that.
• Got a high ankle sprain 4 days before the Minnesota game. That impacted the overall game plan, and he thinks it made a discernable difference.
• VERY salty that Frost/ Gus Johnson spilled the beans on his broken jaw after the Ohio State game. He wanted the ability to tell that story himself. A lot of his family members didn't even know. Said he didn't think it was appropriate.
• He feels responsible for Verdu getting fired. High tensions with Frost after the firings. Overall, said he did a good job explaining things, but it's a tough position. Some people understood, some people didn't.
• Injured his shoulder/ Labia in the Wisconsin game right before the end of the first half. The second half was tough but still had a decent showing. Blamed his INT on the injury and wanted to get surgery ASAP after the game to save his NFL prospects.
• He did test the NFL waters as part of his decision to leave NU. Made the decision to transfer to bolster his NFL prospects.
• Needed a new opportunity, new scenery, new challenge.
• Lots of love. Gave examples of security people hugging him, wishing him well, etc. He claims Frost wanted him to stay.
• Coming back just didn't feel right. Too much baggage. The relationship had naturally concluded. Better for both him and Frost.
• All the NU socials unfollowed him immediately lol.

adios drama rani (3 languages, so you can't say I was being racist)

Tough kid and baller but we have really stupid fans that would rather make the QB the scapegoat over the dogshit coach. Pretty simple

Every now and then I come across some old Nebraska highlights from past games. Every once in a while I see one with a player I had forgotten about. It's always amazing to me because I follow the Huskers so closely, but it still happens.

Honestly......I can't wait to forget this guy.

I mean, a broken jaw, high ankle sprain, and injured Labia are all things that can pretty justifiably affect a QB's performance.

He really is a good kid and he probably had the worst luck of any player here in recent memory. Whether or not he has it in him to succeed elsewhere remains to be seen but I definitely think it made sense both for him and Nebraska to move on. Honestly, I hope he does well because he was a good teammate and gave it everything he had while he was here.

We still pretty much got the same AM against Illinois before the injuries, he is what he is, healthy or banged up & he’s always banged up.

Agree. I liked everything about him as a QB and he seemed like a great teammate, at least publicly. Will always remember how he stood up and talked to the team in the locker room after getting benched for Luke (LOL) and said he was still behind the team and playing his role.

...

But.... He just didn't have that killer instinct in the last few minutes with the game on the line. His stats in the first 55mins of the game versus the last 5 mins of 1 possession games was ludicrous.

I thought it was a good episode. Felt genuine. He'll have to figure out how to throw better into windows though if he wants a shot at the league. Not sure that happens all that well after Labia surgery

The fact that he continuously says "we fought" and "played hard" and that's just okay even when losing, says all you need to know.

I think he'll do "better" at KState but still don't think he sets the world on fire either

Martinez is a good kid. Had zero clutch gene while at Nebraska. Some of that has to fall on him, some of it falls on the coaching staff and other players.

He's right that both he and Nebraska needed a fresh start.

I don't see how he stays healthy at K State as much as they run the ball with the QB. As far as him and drama...what QB at Nebraska in this 20 year run of awfulness hasn't had drama surrounding him. T Magic? Tons of drama with him and Pelini. Armstrong? Tons of drama.. I guess that one shitty qb that Riley brought on for a year didn't have much drama outside of throwing the ball to the other team all the time.

At some point the drama that surrounds Nebraska football and it's most important position isn't completely on the player. It's on the coaches, media, the fans and social media.

I want him to do well but I really want KSU to stink. I don’t think both can exist tho. Grape fans would be insufferable if Martinez has 4k total yards & 30+TDs while winning the conference (which is entirely possible bc the Big12 will be down next yr)
His health right now is a major question mark
He did not have a great Jr season after Labia surgery & that was his non throwing shoulder
I’m not sure he’ll be asked to do much more than hand off to Duece & use his legs (which inevitably gets him injured again)

I thought of Martinez during the Sean McVay interview on stage at the Super Bowl. He said the Rams talk about competitive greatness all the time, being the best when your best is required.

For me it all comes down to Adrian was a good player but he could never bring his best when it was required.
