After another nightmare season in 2021 I was fully prepared to jump ship on Frost, and I still think firing him clearly would've been warranted. But for reasons we all know, Turd gave him an unheard-of mulligan, a one year "show me" season to try to pull off a career-saving Hail Mary. Huge staff changes, revamping the recruiting approach, parting ways with Martinez in favor of transfer QBs - unlike previous offseasons we actually HAVE seen a lot of important activity and re-evaluation going on. We absolutely can not and should not pretend the last four years didn't happen, but it DOES feel like we're about to see a true attempt at a fresh start.

But will it work? Has Frost ACTUALLY shaken off 4 years of mental cobwebs and figured out a new perspective on being a head coach? Will Casey Thompson be a "fast blinker" AND provide a more effective leadership style at QB? What will the offense look like under the direction of a gruff old-timer who wears socks around of the office?

Personally, I was so pissed off and jaded after last season that I figured there was no way I could feel excitement about 2022. But I gotta admit, the changes really DO intrigue me and I am actually really ready to see how the new approach turns out. The Frost Era 1.0 was an unmitigated disaster, there's no other way to put it. I still can't comprehend how it all went so wrong. But unbelievably, he now has a chance to start The Frost Era 2.0 and SO FAR it seems to be built on much better ideas for a solid foundation. He threw open all the windows of the program and aired the place out, and as of right now I'm at least open to being won back over. I'm a sucker for an underdog story, even a self-inflicted one. I mean come on, there's no Mighty Ducks without Coach Bombay getting pulled over on that fateful night at the beginning of the movie...

How are you feeling, and what are you hoping to see as we officially turn the page to the 2022 season?

I’d love to be excited, but we’ll see after week 1, which I don’t even think will be a great gauge. NW was even more awful than Nebraska last year, so I am not going to get too pumped if the Huskers barely beat a team they throttled last year.
There has been reason for optimism every year, and this year more than all those (maybe all of them combined), but until it starts to materialize on the field, I just can’t get very excited.
The schedule is so weak this year that a 7 win season isn’t going to do much for me. 7 wins would have meant something last year…

I'm so emotionally damaged from last year that I don't think I'll ever be positive before a season starts again in my life. With that being said, I like all of the coaching changes, they should move forward in a positive direction, they should win 9 games but I'm sure the curse will strike again.

I love that he finally hired some qualified Asst Coaches. But the bottom line is he is in his 5th year as our Head Coach and he has yet to show the necessary Leadership Skills IMHO to be a successful Power5 Coach. Anyone who has taught Management Training will see this. I am not doubting that he is intelligent but intelligence isn't the biggest factor in being a True Leader. I still question his work ethic also because he was out hunting on my buddies land while we still needed to hire an Asst Coach plus it was a busy time for recruiting.

Vegas has us as having more talent than all but 2 teams we play (Michigan & Oklahoma) so anything below 9 Wins isn't acceptable in my book with such an easy schedule. I think he will get to 7 Wins and a Bowl Game which will probably be enough that Turd is forced to keep him again.

I have never been so apathetic. Inertia brings me back to check in here now and then just to see if anything big has happened in the three days since I last checked in. This year is the first time I couldn't even begin to name even half of the croots signed by NU this year. I just don't care. I fully expect more stupid losses by the Skers doing dumb shit and Frost making stupid decisions on personnel, game management, and generally just not giving two rat fucks about special teams play. No matter what the defense will take a step back unless I've totally missed something. As has been noted I'll believe we have a B1G caliber OL when I see it. The "easy" schedule can't even get me to anticipate a winning season. One hallmark of Frost's teams at NU has been in game fragility of the mental kind. I doubt that changes. One bad play and they'll pack it in and give up like usual. Then come out strong only to drizzle down their legs again when adversity strikes during the game. Ugh I just remembered why I've quit posting.....
