2026/2027 Tennessee-Nebraska Series Cancelled

Who’s the dude that’s always talking about the simulation? I’ll almost guarantee you that we lose 1 or 2 buy games in 2026-2027. We deserve it, freaking clown show.

I can already hear the announcers talking about how we dropped Tennessee for this game when Bowling Green goes up by 2 tuddies. The Simulation™ will show no mercy.

If you are looking at things objectively and not via rose colored glasses: “Nebraska dropping Tennessee so as not to impact their playoff chances“ reads like an Onion headline.

You get the opportunity for a home and home with Tennessee, you take it. That is a great matchup for both fanbases and CFB.

To look at this objectively would be to take into consideration the fact that we already play 9 P5 games in the strongest CFB conference and we don't need to play a 10th while SEC teams are only playing 8. And that playing 8 homes games is preferable to playing 7.

Haven’t had a home and home with an SEC team since the Auburn series in 1981/82. Playing in Knoxville would’ve been awesome for a September game. I’m more disappointed losing the series with this opponent specifically than anything. Yes I get it, play shit non-con teams (who we’ve also lost to anyway) for the hopeful ROI of the CFP Playoff. But it does suck.

"we haven't won a lot of games lately so we shouldn't focus on gaining every possible advantage to help us get to CFB playoff, instead we should make it harder on ourselves because derp derp reasons derp"
Most fans would rather we continue to do things like the “old days” and then complain when we suck vs seeing us actually do everything possible to get back to being in contention.

No, we should do everything in our power to make it to the playoffs.

Does anyone honestly believe we have a shot at making the playoffs in 2026?

It’s more likely we lose to our MAC replacements than make the playoff.
Yes, I honestly believe we have a shot at making the playoffs in 2026. I believe that we have a proven program builder in Rhule and NIL is seemingly stepping up to get him what he needs.

You realize that ASU made the playoff this last year after being 3-9 the year prior....
Why are you even considering the playoff when you’ve made one bowl game in the last decade?
Because we are a goddamn blue blood program! Get out of the cuck chair in the corner and remember that this is a program with rich tradition and resources. We very well may not make the playoff in 2026, but we are a program that *should* be in the conversation at a minimum.

This is it. For now. Take the baby steps to get back to relevance.

In a decade if we’ve returned to being in the conversation each and every fall, then I’ll rethink my position on this.

I’ve been looking forward to playing Tennessee since the series was first announced….what….20 years ago? But the landscape of college football has changed and we’ve changed as a program. If we were still in the 9/10 win world we were in every year with Pelini, I’d be unhappy and say we still needed to play these games. We’re not.

We know big ten/Fox scheduling will fuck us in the ass & they fucked us against USC this year so LA team could get to 6 wins & a bowl since there was no way they were beating Notre Dame, we need every advantage we can get.

Just like with the spring game, we’re going to get shit on for this then more teams will follow cuz this is where CFB is going.

LOL at all the complaining about NU canceling this game. Tennessee asked NU to move it once, and NU agreed—but when NU made the same request, Tennessee said no, so NU canceled. Simple as that.

Until the SEC moves to a nine-game conference schedule, there’s really nothing to bitch about. In 2026, NU will probably be heading to Ohio State in Week 9, while Tennessee hosts UT Martin. Big difference.

Thinking we’re still a blue blood is what’s held us back since we fired Frank. We’re not a blue blood anymore, we’re a laughing stock and will continue to be until we prove otherwise.

Okay, so let’s assume that’s true. What does that mean in practical terms? We should do things that make it harder for us to return to a competitive level?
