2026/2027 Tennessee-Nebraska Series Cancelled

Went to a Tenn v S. Car game on Halloween years ago…Tenn knows how to throw a party!!

Loser stuff by Rhule/Dannen. Same thing with cancelling the spring game, neither have enough goodwill to be screwing over fans like this.
Both this and cancelling the spring game are going to become common place in CFB unfortunately. Just the shit show that CFB has become. Do everything you can to get to the playoffs - don't risk unnecessary losses and keep guys healthy at all costs. Texas and USC have also cancelled their spring games at this point

I seriously don't understand what everyone is bitching about. We already play 9 P5 conference games - it makes zero sense to add this game from a strategic standpoint. It's already hard enough to win games in college football...why make it that much harder on our rebuild?

Schedule another G5 team, get another home game (good for the fans) and fucking host Tennessee in the playoffs in 2026.

Part of being competitive with NIL/rev share/general football ops is being a relentless dollar chaser. Dannen definitely has that mindset, as do the vast majority of ADs in the nation. So yeah, things that seem mundane to a fan like having reduced capacity along with a lower number of home games is going to take precedence over something like this, that would have been a huge deal, especially for the fans to enjoy in the previous era of CFB where the regular season was more than just a prelude to a playoff.

I hate that that's where we are, but this type of fallout isn't changing unless the structure of CFB does.

As far as it "looking bad" or whatever, nobody outside NU/UT fans are going to care. It'll be one of 30 things on a scroll on FS1/ESPN for part of a day, and white noise, just like we wouldn't hardly notice or care if, say LSU & USC called off a game that was still 2 years away.

I get that, but we haven’t won more than a third of our games in conference in a single year since 2016. Nothing about our program should be influenced by the CFBP, we are no where near qualifying even if they double the size of the field.

Does anyone honestly believe we have a shot at making the playoffs in 2026?

It’s more likely we lose to our MAC replacements than make the playoff.

Haven't read all the replies but why the hell would you play any P5 OOC games when you're playing more conference games then almost half the teams you're competing with for playoff spots?

Yep, this is the simplest of answers... It's not like we're in some shit conference and the fact that we play 9 conference games doesn't mean anything. We're in one of the top 2 (if not the top) conferences in the country. We play 9 conference games compared to the SEC playing 8 conference games. Why would we want to make it even more difficult on ourselves?

Exactly.

You’re in the Pac…whatever, the Big 12 or the MWC and you’re going to HAVE to play legit P4 OOC schools in your non con, or you’re pissing up a rope.

We’re pretty much in the same rarified air ESPN thinks the SEC is in. Why risk something 95% of the other P4 schools aren’t?
