Oh great. Our head coaches favorite part of practice is punting. Might as well have never hired Dana

I wasn't expecting Wilson to be a difference maker this yr. But if he is, that's a huge season changer for us.

If you get that plus Barney housing 2-3 kicks (or even like 50 yd returns)....that can make a special season.

These are elements we just haven't had since the Pelini era. You cannot get to 9-10 wins without getting a lot of freebies (opposition fumbling your punts, not giving up big KR/PRs, getting big KR/PRs). We just have had zero of this for so, so long.

We have been mediocre to worst in the country at special teams for so long now that as a fan I almost feel like "hey we are going to suck on special teams oh well". Actually being good at them again would be good for at least two more wins. Think of how many games we've lost over the last ten years that even medium level competency on ST's would have been wins....

I think there is a very distinct possibility that Nebraska could finish 10-2 and NOT earn a playoff bid. What if those 2 losses are to Michigan and Penn State, and the wins look like this below:

Cincinatti - .5, 6, or 7 win Big 12 team
Akron - Trash from the MAC
HCU- Christian Trash from the FCS
Michigan State - below .500 team
Maryland - last place Big Ten team
Minnesota - .500 Big Ten team
Northwestern - below .500 Big Ten team
USC - 7 or 8 win Big Ten team - best win
UCLA - below .500 Big Ten team
Cockeye - 7 or 8 win Big Ten team

Then let's say the following Big Ten Teams finish this way:

Penn State - 11-1
Ohio State - 10-2
Oregon - 10-2
Illinois - 10-2
Michigan - 10-2

Bottom line here is Nebraska isn't getting into the playoffs with their 10-2.
Bring the worst 10-2 team beats being the best 3-9 team.

The difference between comments about the team this year and the last decade it seems is that this year, it is believable. The confidence, the swagger, the belief, the culture is all where it ought to be with the players and the staff. As a coach, you can feel it when the team is going to be good, you don’t need to brag or broadcast it…it is just obvious.

The recent comments about the defenses tackling is slightly concerning. I have PTSD

My hope is it’s more of Rhule challenging the defense through the media to be even more physical and not actual issues with tackling. I hope…

Didn’t Jobu mention tackling as needing to improve the other day? I don’t like this pattern I’m seeing, but I hope you’re correct.
Tackling and depth are concerns to pretty much every coach in the country early in fall camp.

Been about 4 months since anyone's had a live rep where they were taking another dude to the ground... I'm sure we need to shake some rust off & improve, but so does almost every other D in the nation.
