We are apparently leaning heavily into our development with regard to the secondary, because it sounds like we might be done taking DBs from the portal.

6 or 7 projected starters on offense (depending on LG) are transfers.

8 projected starters on defense are transfers. So much for being a developmental program.

Frankly I don’t know if it’s really possible to be a “developmental” program in today’s CFB landscape. Unless you want to be exactly like Cockeye.

Your best HS recruits demand high dollar and then they leave after a year or two. Just a huge waste of money. A program is probably better off spending their money on transfer portal guys every year.

I’ve always been pro portal but I’m starting to think that it’s ruining the game.

2) Rhule is ready to retire and is expediting the end so he can take his buyout and leave

we'll probably overpay for a couple mediocre DL in the closing days of the portal and then act shocked when the DL sucks again next year

If you’re going to be about the portal then go compete in the portal. We haven’t done much of that this cycle.

Nothing they did or attempted to do in the portal signaled they were even close to having the NIL money to compete at a high level.

A huge hurdle to overcome is that DL is not a buyers market. Everyone is looking for 6’3” 330 pounders. They don’t grow on trees. NU’s lack of success over a decade is used against us for the players worth pursuing. It’s not just a Rhule issue.

I think we are seeing the Rhule's ego at play here. Potato me all you want but it was Rhule's ego that led to Butler replacing White. And now after Butler publicly called out the lack of talent on the DL he's going to want to prove him wrong. Has to prove him wrong because I suspect this was the crux of Butler getting shit canned one second after the season ended. Not that I really wanted Butler to stick around mind you. It's just Rhule has hit hat on backwards if he thinks the guys we have are good enough.

That's not great especially with a coach who at least in the beginning wasn't very pro-portal.

Seems like they are still learning the hard way though. Biggest position of need looks like the last position that will be filled. They should have had 6-8? DL ready to visit in the first few days.

I’m more irritated by the DB additions and lack of RB additional than I am at what we have done with our d-line. There are 3,000+ players in the portal and this is the best we could do?

Unless something changes in the next few days I won’t be surprised. This roster, as is, gonna get run over by any Oline with a pulse.
