Being able to bring guys is one of the biggest features of hiring coaches. Arbuckle did the same thing when he brought Cam Ward to Wazzu from Incarnate Word. Hell even Tony White brought Vincent Carroll-Jackson, Stefon Wright, etc when he came.

One of the biggest issues IMO is that we hired a HC and OC without the ability to immediately infuse talent in from previous stops. I was very fired up for Aurich as he was going to be able to do that. Does not appear at this time we’ll be having as much success/benefit from that as originally anticipated (but again - it is early)
It's a perk, it can't be the motivation if you want to be successful long term unless you're fine churning a burning assistants basically annually and maybe that's the new world.

100% and this entire thing changes rapidly (“recruiting is fluid!”)

But nothing about the way the last 4 years (and beyond that) have gone indicate to me we’re going to be able to pull a rabbit out of our hat based upon the way things have started to date in the portal for us

Most of the difference maker talent is going to be wrapped up at new schools in the next 2 weeks. We’re probably going to be importing guys from one of the worst OLs in the P4 last year (South Carolina) to fill gaps in what was already not a high performing unit. We’ve heard nothing about targeting players at RB or WR on offense.

Meanwhile on defense, we’re appearing to be struggling to attract proven production guys with relationships from the new DC at his previous stops. The entire reason you hire someone like Aurich is he can bring 4+ guys with him… so far we’re trending closer to 1-2 of those guys which is a disappointment. I have no idea what is happening at linebacker or if Dvorcheck has even come back from Vegas yet to start thinking about it

My concern is the difference maker talent will be off the board by two weeks from today. Classes at UNL start a week from tomorrow (!!). For this thing to turn around its going to have to move QUICKLY in a very, very short period of time.
Plus we’re still reportedly “working” to get transfer portal prospects to visit vs being lined up like other schools to visit day 1. I think without booster over spend our outlook is pretty poor for next season. I do not see them popping due to a bunch of great hidden gems that they’ve developed and the ones we thought may work out like Keone are partaling.

if the assistants move every year they won't have relationships strong enough to bring anyone.

The bigger problem is that when a team like SDSU achieves at the level they did this year on defense, everyone knows about it and is already reaching out to the players.

Ironically, its something we haven’t done and we’ve had churning of assistants every offseason

In my opinion, we live in a 1.5-2 year “box” now for CFB. You can’t plan beyond that - it’s impossible

OK State isn’t hiring Morris because they think he can be there for 20 years. They’re hiring him cause he put up a great record with great players that all had eligibility left that are now coming to Stillwater. Coaching success and talent have never been more intertwined than they are now. For some reason we keep thinking theres some magic sauce that we’re going to be able to uncover through team chemistry and other stuff as if more talented rosters and programs aren’t also doing those things

No offense to this young man, he may be a great player. But with all the options of MUCH higher caliber players, if this is the kind of player we’re going after in the portal, just shut this shit down. It kind of seems to be the case as we’re barely making noise in the portal at this point.
We have one more year of this and then we have to hope we can do better than get a Head coach good enough to get our hopes up but not good enough to actually win a lot in the Big Ten. Please not another head coach who will hire his lesser/inexperienced buddies for the AC roles because they were good enough at whatever G5 school he came from. Groundhog Day.

And yet, miraculously, Oklahoma State has Mestemaker, Hawkins, and the starting North Texas OT from last year on board and is going to land the UNT #1 WR Young. Mestemaker and Hawkins could’ve gone anywhere in the country and Young isn’t far behind.

I say we just burn it all down. The school needs to focus on gender studies, not toxic, aggressive "sports".

Yeah, bringing players along definitely works at a higher level when it is the HCs that move instead of the assistants.. There is a much better chance than new place will feel/be like the old one.

I do think the HC v Assistant piece is fair but not by any means insurmountable and thus is part of the reason I am frustrated with how the situation has played out with the SDSU guys and Nebraska

agreed,, It's easy to be very emotional here on the internet w/out millions of our own money on the line.

most good business men aren't doubling down on an already perceived "bad investment"..

if I was said millionaire/billionaire.. I definitely would not be committing more resources to a product that rhule has displayed so far.
Tech did with McGuire. Seemed to work out

Plus our administration put the university into a worse predicament extending Rhule which was just stupid. It’s going to be harder to fire him after next year due to a huge buy out when we likely don’t make a bowl game.
