I’m not convinced he came here as a DC to take a lesser HC job. He could have stayed at ‘Cuse for that.

Any head coaching job would also have been a raise. He didn’t need to leave Syracuse so that he could get a job as a head coach he left Syracuse so that he could get a higher profile head coaching job.
