But you would never think it’s wrong from someone to leave a smaller company to go to something with more opportunity. 100% agree that things need to be worked out but college football is a full time job. Those players deserve to be paid while schools profit millions of dollars. The truth is that people don’t like it because we get outbid.
That was the conversation I had with my dad this weekend. He hates it too and wants some sort of salary cap put on to protect the smaller schools. I called him a socialist....

I don’t know the answer for the smaller schools but I will never hate on someone getting what they believe is their true value. We just need to pony up what the going rate is if we want to be serious about winning games.

Were you always against NIL? What would be your preferred system?
Pretty much. I feel giving all student athletes the same compensation is the way to go but I know it’s imperfect and not feasible.

I just feel the current system is not sustainable long term.

Yeah, it's a tough problem to solve.

I think the solution will end up being a super conference that's defined, largely, by resource availability etc.

A complete break up of P5 from G5 and a distillation of the P5 conferences into the biggest CFB brands. Honestly the groundwork is already being laid with the conference expansion we've seen and the disintegration of the Pac-12.

You probably believe fast food workers deserve $25/HR too. A star QB does not have the same value as the long snapper and that’s why they are compensated at different levels.

I think the more insidious issue is P5 teams poaching G5 teams for their star players.

I think everyone understands the market positionally.

Though if we're talking about compensation through schools the NCAA and by extension any government who could compel the NCAA to do anything has accepted that it doesn't operate as an market. So I'm a bit skeptical that even though we know some players are more valuable than others that the NCAA would ever deviate from standardized compensation at least through the school. Like in this proposal they'll set a floor, but I'd be shocked if they let us pay Princewell $250k a year and Sims $25k

Read what I said: I don’t blame the kids. Get paid while you can.

I think the whole concept of collegiate athletics is at risk here. Maybe that’s a good thing - I don’t know.

While that is true and does hurt the top end talent of G5, they also are benefiting from it by guys not sitting on the 2nd or 3rd team on P5 teams and moving to a place they can play right away.

The way I see it is that the top end talent of P5 increases, but depth and stability decrease. Top end talent of G5 decreases, but depth increases.

That seems logical.

Overall, I really don't have a problem with NIL as it is. I don't think "regulation" is going to magically make things better because there is no enforcement apparatus.
