the Duck has gotten so much better. True fan, just got lost in being a tool for a bit. He's actually very funny lately. Not sure on the number but There 3 posters who I think could hold the title *all of dirtmans accounts, ducky boi and I can’t remember the last guy
This is awesome and accurate.Fans are fickle bitches.
You bring your whole staff from your last stop, you're just getting your boys paid
If you hire old coaches the game has passed them by and they can't win in the new era of football
If you hire up and comers they're too green for this level of job
You hire high paid mercenaries, they aren't invested in the long term project and just looking for their next gig
You avoid buddy hires, the staff lacks chemistry and can't work together
You hire a 3 man front guy, not enough beef on the line.
Hire a 4 man front guy Nebraska can't recruit traditional edge rushers
Play 3 safeties, we have tweeners who can't stop the run
Your nose is 6'4" 330 he can't get leverage
Your nose is 5'10" 290 he's too small
Play 3 linebackers and you aren't athletic enough
Fans will always want something different as long as Nebraska isn't winning at a high level

80% of this board would have been furious if Nebraska had hired Cingenti a couple of years ago because of his lack of experience.
Spent more than a few nights tossing them back at Grandma's. Even buzzed up to Duluth with a buddy from St. Paul one fine NYE knowing there'd be overpoured cougars looking for fit younger breeding stock. We were correct. Did not encounter any future DC's that I recall, but I'd been knocking a few back myself that evening. C'est la vie.
I have seen so many posts about needing coaches with Big Ten experience or P5 experience...none of which Cignetti had. I guarantee there would have been a lot of people not happy if he was out hire originally. That's the only point I'm trying to make. People have these weird boxes that they need to have checked (I can fall into this too). But, as you pointed out, Cignetti's resume was pretty solid in reality.Cignetti didn't lack experience. My fucking goodness people, quit recreating history to fit a narrative.
6 or 7 years at NC State; Phillip Rivers & Russell Wilson ring a bell?
5 seasons (+/-) at Alabama under Nick Saban, WR coach and as recruiting coordinator.
13 years as a head coach. Multiple playoff appearances, including 2 semi-finals and a title game appearance. Transitioned JMU from FCS to FBS and in year 2 they won 10+ games. Finished ranked in 10 of 13 seasons.
Cignetti had winner written all over him.
