So it seems that the main aspect for consideration for the DC position was that the candidate had to maintain every current D position coach, as is.

No wonder we got an up-and-comer with 1 year experience as a FBS DC.

It’s a risk, hope it works out. If it fails to produce, Rhule’s seat will get plenty hot in ‘26 as a result.

I like it a lot better than the Butler hire TBH.

Kind of tough to judge his SDSU season since he joined a very good HC who is tough, established his identity and runs the shit out of the ball

Basically everything opposite of Rhule

Will be interesting to see how he meshes, if Rhule foists people on him and if he brings any of his guys with him

80% of this board would have been furious if Nebraska had hired Cingenti a couple of years ago because of his lack of experience. Now he is the best coach in the country. Heck, his DC that just dominated Ohio St is only in his 4th year as a solo DC - two with James Madison and now two with Indiana. Bet you would have been pissed if we had brought him on board too....

Honestly, it is a gamble. He's had one amazing year, but that's basically it. Can he actually maintain that trend?

But these days, I don't really believe there's such a thing as a sure thing in coaching hires. I mean just look at how many big name head coaching hires have ultimately failed in recent years.

I try to look for factors that can make a coach look better than they really are - at least temporarily. Coaches who hit the jackpot with a QB are a classic - great for a short while, then fall off a cliff. Or you have a team like Texas Tech just straight up buying a championship-grade roster.

But I don't think that's the case for Aurich. They've got a former 3* CB who's a legit draft pick this year, but I haven't seen anything that would suggest their roster was particularly 'stuffed' this year compared to last year.
