As Nebraska wraps up its preparations for its homecoming showdown vs. Michigan State, head coach
Matt Rhule gave the latest on the Huskers following Thursday morning’s practice.
Here’s a full recap of what he had to say…
Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule
***Rhule said the forecast for strong winds on Saturday was “part of being here” at Nebraska. They practiced outside this spring in high winds and cold, so the players are used to it. The wind will be a factor “in everything you do,” especially in the kicking game.
He referenced how wind impacted last year’s Rutgers and Maryland games, as well as this season’s game against Akron.
***Rhule called linebackers Javin Wright and Vincent Shavers “run-and-hit guys.” He thinks they’ll be important against a dual-threat quarterback like Michigan State’s Aidan Chiles.
***Rhule said
Demitrius Bell practiced this week, but then injured his other hamstring. He said it’s not a “long-term deal,” but it would hold the receiver out a bit longer.
***Rhule said
Malcolm Hartzog would work out before the game and “we’ll see where he’s at” regarding his status for Michigan State.
***Rhule said it’s been since 2019 that Nebraska last beat MSU, and the team is looking at it as another opportunity to end an extended drought like Wisconsin last year. He thinks the Huskers are fired up to play again. However, it wasn’t because they were still dwelling on the loss to Michigan. It’s because they have another chance to take a step toward reaching their goals.
