How long do you expect Holgorsen to stick around?

This is something I’ve been pondering and with the news of Mike Gundy’s firing, I figured the timing was right to throw this question out there.

On one hand, he’s openly said he was getting burnt out on being a HC in this new era of CFB. He’s getting paid handsomely by Nebraska (and will continue to be as long as he’d like I’d imagine), and also has another year of DR plus some really solid QB prospects coming down the line with Lateef and Taylor.

On the other hand, he has had success as a HC and once you’ve had that experience of running your own programs, it wouldn’t surprise me if there would be a desire to get back to that after a couple years as a coordinator, especially if the right opportunity presented itself.

Personally, I think he sticks around for 1 more year of DR and then finds himself back in to a HC gig. I’d love to be wrong and have him here for an extended period of time, but I don’t see it with a guy who is such a prominent figure in the CFB landscape.

I think he sticks around a other year or two after this year. I dont see him being a college HC again. He clearly wasn't enjoying it. I imagine if he leaves its to the NFL, likely as an OC.

this is what I think. I think he wants to try matching wits with DCs in the NFL.

I guess we'll see if the NFL is of interest to him - he's never worked in the NFL in his life (and all the notable head coaches he's worked under are also almost exclusively college guys), & he'd need to turn out an elite (top 5-10) offense at NU to get considered for an NFL OC job without first doing positional or consultant work there, IMO.

I tend to think he's pretty happy in his role here, & as long as he's meshing well with Rhule, is likely to stick around for a number of years.

I think lots of the guys Dana's age see how different the head coaching job is now and probably feel like a highly paid coordinator position is about as good as it gets nowadays.

unfortunately I think Rhule is going to meddle too much and Holgo gets tired of it and leaves. Probably after next year. You can already see little things like running back rotation and run/pass ratio getting under Rhule’s skin during pressers. There was even some offhand comment Rhule made when Damon called him during their radio show. Rhule said something like, “I’m always 3rd in the building, no one beats Phil snow or Butler, but I never worry about Dana beating me in there.” I just generally get the sense that Dana operates in a way Rhule doesn’t like. So even if we get good results, there’s going to be a friction there.

I’d say it largely depends on how this year plays out and what’s available elsewhere.

Does he really want another HC gig, or does he like the coordinator role? For a guy his age, it’s a fair question.

We win 8-10 games and the offense gets most of the credit, if the answer to the above is ‘Yes’, then maybe he strikes while the iron is hot. If not, another year with Dylan and maybe he likes Lincoln and the role.

3-9 last year and starting 1-3 this year did that.

My uninformed opinion is that he is trying to parlay his time with DR into whatever he wants to do next. So we have DR for one more year after this season most likely pending he sticks around.

I don’t think he wants to ever be a head coach again. Made his millions and can still collect about 1.5 to 2 million a year with about 1/4 of the headaches. I think he goes the NFL route as a coordinator or somewhere bigger than here!

Definitely a trend in his generation of dudes of late to just nope out of the dumb shit of managing NIL budgets and 19 year olds who haven't proven shit demanding money and just taking a step back to coach ball
