embezzlement.

I always loved the blues scene there, especially at The Grand Emporium, which apparently no longer exists 😔

In any case, I’ve heard the city has turned pretty sketchy… we’re staying at the ambassador hotel downtown.
Wouldn’t worry much about it, but I’m accompanied by four other couples (eight individuals) for whom I feel responsible. Should I carry hard, or soft? (9 mm handgun, simple projectile stun gun), or nothing at all.

.

Live in KC. You’ll be fine with the group. Don’t look for trouble and you’ll have no problems . As with most cities, don’t leave valuables in plain site if you have a car.

I hard carry plenty, but that just me. It’s rare that I’m not carrying. I see no really reason why you’d have to carry other than personal protection.

Cheers

He’s probably walking around the suburbs of said major cities. I doubt he’s walking around North Philly by himself at night.
Okay, I’ll bite. What reason would I have for walking around in north Philly? I go to Chicago and NY multiple times a year for work and never have any issues, never in the suburbs. Have been to SF, Portland, Seattle—all fine. If you have a basic level of street smarts and situational awareness you’re never going to have an issue.

OP is talking about going to the Power and Light District. It’s not like they’re hanging out east of Troost.

I don't disagree that he's probably going to be fine in KC or most major cities with basic street smarts and situational awareness

But it undermines the larger point about feeling completely safe in large cities. The street smarts/situational awareness you agree are needed is because you acknowledge that some areas and situations in large cities do present higher risk.

No one advises someone walking around Seward, Nebraska that they will be fine "if they have basic street smarts and situational awareness". They will be fine regardless lol

I think the only place I was concerned was getting gas in a small town in Southern Missouri. I could hear the banjos in the trees.

I get your point though.

Yeah kind of a victim blame. It’s your fault you got mugged because you went walking around with that Rolex on your wrist. Should of had street smarts
