My golden retriever mix is 9.5 years old and starting to show joint pain, especially her hind legs.

Recommendations? I’m open to about anything.

- Dasuquin Advanced with ESM, you can either get it from your vet or you can message me and I can point you in the right direction elsewhere.
- Adequan IM injection.
- Librela.

Cosaquin (sp?) you can get it from Costco. We give it to our 5 yr old Newfie because she already has the leg shakes that giant breeds get. Don't know if it really helps or not though as she is a lazy bitch and doesn't run around much anyway

We use librela for our 12 year old Lab. Works better than anything else we tried in the past. Is a little expensive ($75/mo) but it works. Our vet lets me administer it at home so I save a little not paying for a vet visit.

When I went through this recently, my vet prescribed previcox initially short term along with glucosamine chewables daily long-term. The previcox was for bringing down the inflammation on the front end.

I’d go Jope (or BioPup/PetFlex) and Glucosomine together if you don’t mind the cost. Anecdotally, I’ve had several patients completely turn the corner on it and have had owners report tangible improvement in a matter of days whereas with glucosomine you’re looking at weeks/months of consistent use to notice anything.

Aside from that, talk to your vet if he starts having acute episodes and see if you can get some Carprofen prescribed for those instances. It’s an NSAID and with acute episodes that are happening alongside normal age-related joint issues, it can perk them up pretty fast.

I’m limping my own dog along using this regimen and I honestly didn’t think he was going to make it to August. I would say he’s as stable now as he was in March, which I never would have imagined. Thinking I might get another year out of him because he’s totally healthy besides his joints.

Always assumed you were more of a cat guy

I used CBD Glucosamine chews. Started with glucosamine, but my pup had a severe allergic reaction to it. A couple years later a different vet said it was probably an additive or sea life added in flavoring. Tried again with the chews and had great results. That was at 12, and he was active healthy until he died a week before 16th birthday.
