Proud Dad Moments?

My wife used to work at the UNL daycare center and she said we are working on independent sleep right away. Thankfully he’s isn’t colicky so it was pretty easy to start right away. She said they used to want to strangle parents who never worked on it and she doesn’t want to put our daycare provider through that. I have a feeling it isn’t as cut and dried as she thinks it should be lol
Soooooo truth be told my daughter slept in our bed until probably early last winter some time. My wife is a special ed teacher and has some pretty rough days, and her postpartum was rough as well, so that combo wasn't awesome. My daughter was very colicky the first 6 months and my mother in law was over a lot at night those first few months to help with that. It was our plan as well, that battle was lost pretty early on. I can't remember the exact situation that flipped the switch for me, but one day during during this last winter I kinda just fuck it and was like, I'm cleaning out the crib we had at the time, and I'll sleep on the floor and just wear it until she's sleeping in her own bed. I just remember knowing before hand that my wife was going to have a hard week, and I knew getting our daughter in her own bed would help them both sleep, so that's what started it. A few months go by, we get her a new bed too, and bam, she's sleeping in her own bed, most of the time through the whole night. Wish I would have done it years ago now and just dealt with it, but hindsight is 20/20.

My first, and so far only son (we are planning on one more), is 2 months today. I want him just to get to the point where he sleeps through the whole night but then slow down after that. Thankfully he’s down to getting up just once a night rather than three times a night when we first brought him home. It’s amazing how much bigger he already is than two months ago!
My kids have slept through the night since around 3 months old. We attribute most of that to baby merlins magic sleep suit.

I'm a girl dad - I have three amazing daughters who are 8, 5 and 3. All are very much "girls" in the aspect that they love princesses, unicorns, etc. However, we have a fair balance. They watch sports with me and I am going through the MCU movies with my 8 and 5 year old. My oldest is really into soccer and is actually quite good.

My wife also grew up in an all-girl household and has two sisters. Her dad enjoys sports, but has never been on the level that I grew up at. She grew up with the Husker games on every Saturday, but it was background noise for her.

All of that has obviously changed since being married to me. To her credit, she has started to take a serious interest too. Last night my wife proactively asked to go over the depth chart with her so she would know who to be watching for this year. She started asking more questions about the different positions, players roles and we really started getting into more of the nitty-gritty. Before too long, I had the whiteboard out and was drawing up formations and explaining things with a bit more detail. My 8-year-old daughter, God love her, was doing her best to want to be interested. Like I said, I had the whiteboard out and had the X's and O's drawn up. My daughter asked, "Now, are we the hugs or the kisses?"

I laughed so hard for so long. I gave her the biggest hug and told her that was possible the greatest thing that has ever been said to me. Just the epitome of being a girl dad lol.

Being a boy dad is slightly different.

Last night my wife was getting our 2 year old son into his bed and me and my 5 year old son were waiting for her in his room to say goodnight. I was sitting in the middle of the floor and as usual my son was climbing all over me, then he started leaning against my back like I was a wall, where I could feel his butt on my upper back. About five seconds later he lets out one of the loudest farts I've ever heard from him and immediately falls on the floor because he's laughing so hard about it.

That is amazing!!! But don't be fooled...my girls can pack a powerful punch too! Girl farts are worse than dog farts...

Just sent our last one off to Air Force BMT on Sunday night. Wife is definitely having a hard time with him being gone and us being empty nesters.

Men and women definitely handle this shit differently... I see it as the next stage to him becoming his own man, spreading his wings, and figuring out who he really is.

Small W, picked up my daughter from Pre-K yesterday. Parked in my normal spot, decided to get out and stand there by my truck yesterday because I was a little early and it was nice out. She saw me in line from the playground when they get in line and walk towards the pick up line, I just hear "DADDY I'M COMIN!" and starts running towards me when her teacher says it's okay. Not a huge deal, but just a small thing that made me smile in the moment. I picked her up, big hug, we got in my truck and headed home.

Its the best. My middle one is in preK this year too and yesterday was the first day I got to pick her up from school this year. Those after school running hugs are the best.

My Father in law used to pick up my oldest daughter from kindergarten. He would wait in his truck, she would come walking out with her class and climb up into the truck. Grandpa would have 1 Brach's peppermint and 1 Brach's butterscotch on the seat for her to choose from. To this day that's a memory that sticks in her head. Now that he has passed that memory makes her well up...me too.

It's the little things that make life great!!

This is a great thread!!

My mother in law told me to cherish every moment from this point on when we dropped her off for her first day a couple weeks ago. She's basically my mother figure in my life.
