Phil Steel has released his Big 10 rankings

Would assume we handle Illinois this year. The rest looks pretty close, atleast from Nebraska up. Toss up on Michigan.

I wouldn't make that assumption.

They return their QB and have one of the best OL in the conference.

We don't play Illinois this year. Although that game would be a toss-up if we did.

I also think Michigan will be better than the average "fan" thinks they'll be. Many fans seem to think they'll take a step back, but M has good players and coaches.

Indiana OTOH will take a step back IMO and finish lower than Illinois and Nebraska.

Now go to Vegas and place those bets!

They have at least 3 top 100 draft picks starting on their offensive line. I think its not just one of the best OL's in the conference, its one of the best in the country. On a side note, Illinois literally out worked every other team in the country back during the 2024 portal season and pulled in two legit NFL level offensive tackles.

Melvin Priestly out of Grambling State
JC Davis out of New Mexico

Their transfer class was ranked 46th Nationally in 2024. They literally signed two All Conference caliber offensive tackles who will both go to the NFL with more than 25 career starts at Illinois.

That transfer class should be re-ranked to the top 10. They basically hauled in the caliber of two 5-star offensive tackles.

I thought he was being sarcastic because Edwards is dogshit too lmao

I always like it when people provide football hot takes like this one. It helps me understand who's opinion is valid, and who doesn't know anything about college football.

Billy Edwards, Jr. has more than 3500 total yards, 32 TDs and only 11 turnovers in 14 career starts. And that's while playing for the worst coach and easily the 2nd worst Big Ten team in 2024.

He is a significant upgrade for Wisconsin. And I bet Edwards puts up big numbers with new Offensive Coordinator Jeff Grimes. Hell, I bet Edwards even surpasses 500 yards rushing and 10+ rushing TDs this season as well.

Last year was the only year he got significant playing time & he had a very similar year to true freshman Dylan Raoila. Not exactly lighting the world on fire. I’ll agree it’s an upgrade at qb, but that doesn’t take much.

Does this mean Dylan is dogshit too?

Bootleg11 off the cuff rankings:
1) Penn St - returns best returning QB in the conference, 2nd year with Kotelnicki, hired a top 5 DC in the country
2) Ohio St - has the best offensive and defensive player in the nation
3) Illinois - Return a good QB, great OL, great culture, understand who they are.
4) Oregon - Dante Moore? Are we sure? Evan Stewart out.
5) Michigan - True frosh QB. Is the HC the answer?
6) Indiana - Somehow got another easy schedule. They avoid Ohio St, Penn St, USC, Nebraska, Washington and Minnesota..that's 6 of the top 10 Big 10 teams
7) USC - They have to be better than 7th in the Big 10 or they'll be looking for a new coach
8) Cockeye - Defense will be good. 2nd year with the OC. Gronowski can't be worse then what they had right?
9) Nebraska - QB is the most talented returning QB in the conference. Are special teams fixed? Can the DL hold up?
10) Minnesota - They are what they are. Will be bad in some games, will upset others. They are the northern version of Cockeye
11) Washington - A lot of faith being put into their QB because he torched a bad defense in a bowl game
12) Rutgers - They are what they are. Gonna muck up games and play tough. They are the northeastern version of Cockeye
13) Wisconsin - #2ndChoice gone? KU was glad to see Grimes go.
14) UCLA - They are interesting. They may start 1-2 going to Northwestern (off a bye). If they lose that game, it could be a long season
15) Michigan St - their QB gonna stop throwing it to the other team? They gonna run the ball like old Oregon State teams?
16) Maryland - meh, I know nothing about them but I can guess..talent on the perimeter and no depth on the L.O.S.
17) Northwestern - double meh
18) Purdue - Barry Odom is a good coach but that could be a tough year

Oregon is a hard one. They have great talent, I think. They've recruited at a high clip according to recruiting sites which are usually accurate. But we haven't really seen Lanning's recruits play. This will be that year. Do we trust the QB? Their floor is probably 6th in the Big 10 and ceiling is probably 1st.

What's Nebraska's ceiling? 4th? What's their floor? 12? 13?

CBS has us at third easiest (favorable) schedule ..

3. Nebraska Cornhuskers

2025 slate: Cincinnati, Akron, HCU, Michigan, Michigan State, at Maryland, at Minnesota, Northwestern, USC, at UCLA, at Penn State, Cockeye

This program could take a major leap forward if quarterback Dylan Raiola continues his development under Dana Holgorsen and Matt Rhule's handpicked portal class shows out. The Huskers have put a ton of resources into this two-deep roster and drew a schedule conducive to success. The Big Ten opener against Michigan at home in Week 4 could define the Huskers' season.
