Met my parents at the bar in town for a quick supper. Bar owner always has new whiskeys for us to try. He gave us this one tonight, very good. Very nice light oak finish. If you can find this one for a sample it’s worth a try, $130 a bottle he said.
Costco had this a while back for $68. It’s solid

Another BTAC I’ll never own. I don’t think anyone knows but I’ve heard 12-15
I went to a new store today, and they had just about every allocated bottle available (other than Pappy stuff). The problem was that it was all like secondary prices. Weller SR was 70, Full Proof was 160, and the other stuff all over $200. The BTACs were over 1500, and even a handle of BT was 100. It just sucked because I really got my hopes up because I have never seen a lot of it ever on a shelf.

I really can’t blame stores for selling at secondary. If people are going to pay it, why not. $160 for full proof doesn’t seem terrible but a handle of BT for $100 is ridiculous. 1500 for BTAC is ridiculous too. People in Omaha are ready to riot when mega saver (gas station chain) have BTAC and ole rip van winkle in the 500-1000 range.

I just realized I goofed. It was Weller 12; Full Proof was over 200. I have never had any Weller ever, so I am afraid to spend a lot of money on something I am not even sure I like.

Some friends went down to the trail over the weekend and are bringing me back the new Turkey 8 year 101. Got to sample it next to the 70th Anniversary, the 8 year Japanese release, 12 year, and KY Spirit a couple weeks ago. It’s very solid for the price-<$50

@Scott Hall set me up with my first ever Weller SR and eagle rare bottles. The Weller SR is pretty good, seems like a basic bourbon with a little sweeter aftertaste. He also gave me a sampling of Weller antique 107 which I am saving for the celebration of the birth of my first baby boy which my wife is due in about 6 weeks. My wife’s aunt and uncle live in Kansas City and they claim Buffalo Trace products are a little easier to find in Kansas than they are up here, especially Weller. Anyone on here from Kansas that can corroborate? I’ve put them on the hunt for antique 107, with no such luck so far but we don’t see them only a couple of times a year.

I’ve heard that as well.

If you are looking for alternatives to Weller that are really good, there are now a lot of great wheaters out there. That wasn’t always the case.. Ben Holladay has some and is just outside KC. The Bardstown Wheated is quite good, as is the Penelope (especially for the price- $30-$40). There are many more, but all of them are going to be more available and cheaper than the Wellers (aside from SR).
