That's what I read as well...and I'm surprised that he hasn't been approached - if true.
My wife is a Democrat and liked the guy as a politician, so I think that's notable that perhaps he could handle different perspectives.

According to the Secretary of State's website, here are the races happening this year:
District 3: Jim Scheer is running unopposed
District 4 (east Omaha): Elizabeth O'Connor (incumbent, seems to be one of the problems) vs. Jim Rogers. O'Connor has been mentioned by a couple people as generally not being helpful towards NU football, etc. Rogers is a longtime UNO guy & an academic. Seemed to be a nerdy but forward thinking guy, probably centrist politics. Analysis: Rogers would likely represent at least some improvement
District 5 (south Lancaster County: Rob Schafer (incumbent, chairman of the regents, unknown) vs. Gary Rogge & Jerome Wohleb. Schafer has been publicly supportive of UNL athletics. Politics within the BoR unknown, but seems to be the type who would at least side with the football team over academics/partisans who were hostile to sports.
Rogge shows up in various municipal government meeting notes testifying for about small issues, an op-ed complaining about Kansas farmers doing field burns, and was a candidate for an OPPD office & Lt. Governor, but never appears to have set up any web pages or info about himself. Doesn't seem like a serious candidacy. Wohleb is a pharmacy director in Lincoln. Older, no associations with sports that I can find, hasn't produced any info about himself yet. Impression is an academic type probably running for reasons related to the medical field. Analysis: Schafer seems like the best option here
District 8 (west Omaha): Barbara Weitz (incumbent, one of the bigger problems according to multiple sources) vs. Zachary Mellender. Weitz is super, super into girl's & women's stuff, especially politically leftist orgs. Likely outrightly hostile towards football, etc. Mellender is younger, does business systems stuff for the Omaha Zoo, has been on a state information technology panel appointed by the governor, and seems generally like a more analytical/logistical guy. Analysis: Mellender better by default.

This is likely an afterthought at this point, but also why I'm cynical of elected officials. Concerned about reelection, so they went ahead and voted for Gold.
If you're doing it for spite, then there really is issues on the BOR. I also believe Gold was the right choice..

Here’s my questions about this whole thing:
1 - How long it took for them to actually break the tie and vote for Gold, was that timeline normal for BoR across the country to approve a new President?
2 - Did they panic and bend to public pressure to vote for Gold or were they very close to this conclusion already before Turd left and they just sped up the timeline due to public pressure?
If it’s just normal politics on the BoR and just different opinions I’m not going to get so worked up about voting them out just because Turd left. If there is actually dysfunction on the Board then it may be time to vote a few of them out. The problem there is are the people we would replace them with going to be any better or worse? Hopefully we can keep this thread alive throughout the summer and into voting next fall to get more information on the ones that are up for re-election and the other candidates. Right now I’m strongly leading towards replacing them.
I am in District 3 with Jim Scheer which I believe he is up for election since he was appointed to the Board taking Pillens place, which 2010sarenevercoming post pointed out he is running unopposed.

In regards to your first question. it was actually a normal time line to get a president.
When jimbo pillen was a BoR it took them 3 more days to select Ted Carter.
the national average is roughly a full academic year.

Nebraska doesn’t own the stadium or rights to run concessions.
I’m sure they’ll get there usual % cut and claim the rest will be “reinvested” which always just goes to normal every day stadium maintenance
