Someone please tell me why I should believe that Butler will be a good DC

We're...
27th in scoring defense
26th first down's allowed
24th in 3rd down defense
98th in sacks
2nd in passing defense
93rd in rushing defense
13th in total defense

39th in scoring offense
26th in first downs gained
123rd in sacks allowed
41st in passing offense
94th in rushing offense
66th in total offense

So considering our personnel and experience levels entering the year, which side of the ball has performed above expectations?

Mind bottling someone could defend our offense that has cost us 3 games.

I know our schedule hasn’t been difficult, but #13 in total defense is solid

Not sure why the negativity around Butler? If we even had an average interior defenseive line, this unit would be one of the top defenses in the country. Even with the clear weaknesses at certain position groups, they have kept us in every game this year. They are super young too. Add some key pieces at certain positions in the portal and we’ll becooking in 2026.

I did see more disruption caused by the young bucks Van Poppel, Nwaneri and Davis last night up front than I can remember in any B10 game this year. That being said, when we flushed the QB out of the pocket, he did burn us a couple of times. The penetration and stopping of the RB run game was encouraging.

Team playing harder without Dylan. I told you guys and it happened. I never miss.

Our pass defense is so good because we have 8 guys in coverage and Butler has given up the rush defense to go all in on stopping the pass. It’s not rocket science

I was packing up a tailgate 25 mins after the Northwestern game about 15 mins from the stadium - Butler walked by us with a beer in a Dixie cup appearing to have walked from the stadium, came up to us and shook all our hands and apologized for the game being tight. Seems like a good dude so I'm fine with another year after another offseason but I think everyone agrees that his leash is short
He does seem like a cool dude.

Butler has made a conscious decision to eliminate the other team's passing game as the top priority (like you see in the NFL) and that will always leave room for the QB to run. It's working pretty well so far. I don't believe the QB run has been primarily responsible for any of our 3 losses. It may be annoying to see it, especially with a guy as talented as Nico, but I'd rather win than take away the QB running game. I think Butler is doing a very good job this year.

What about the Michigan game? Was that the QB that ran all over us at will? Remind me

Yes, it is true. We've played a lot of snaps with two high, even three high. We have been outnumbered up front on most snaps.
OL immediately on LBs. That would also explain some of the LB play. It seems like a lot of our fans and experts don’t know anything about basic football.
