NBA Discussion

Yeah, definitely a tricky situation. Jrue is going to be 35 and KP is basically playing half his games right now (and going into a contract year). Not a bad time to take advantage of the random window and make a move.

It'll be interesting to watch, at least. Unless you are a C's fan - probably not so fun. Old guys who are done at playing at Bling level (Jrue and Horford). Porzingis more of a very tall wing in a lot of ways, and also just oft-injured. I would be incredibly surprised if Tatum hasn't snapped his achilles, so counting on that being the case and basically he will be out for all, or almost all, of next season.

There just isn't a lot of youth with value to use in trades. It will be interesting to see what direction they take - blow-up, punt year where they make a few changes (they were likely gonna anyway) and let Tatum heal, or try to salvage the team enough to be contenders next season (with no Tatum not seeing it). Being in that inbetween purgatory is not good, either. Good, sometimes really good for stretches, but ultimately not a true contender once the playoffs hit.

You think they wouldn’t have given a generational white boy to the Jazz?

I mean, Dirk, Nash, Luka - Mavs have a history in that area.

Jazz are a small market team. They LOVE their white boys, more than any other franchise, but they have little to no pull.

Mavs are the 4th largest market team in the league.

Now a team that has talent, picks, etc to make a big move - the Spurs. One could see Giannis as a Spur given their trade assets and the fact that the Spurs could trade real value that is young (and pick assets) and still have a more than solid team in place.

Joking, obv, but a Flagg, Walker, and Markkanen core would’ve been soaking fuel.

Mavs agree to trade Luka to the league’s poster franchise for way under market value. In exchange the league agrees to rig the lottery and give them the #1 pick.

I mean I’m a Mavs fan but this has gotta be rigged, right?

Exactly. With Bucks and Suns looking likely to deal, going to get some resets.

Spurs make the most sense for Giannis. And it is probably one of the few teams that not only has a ton of good youth and trade assets to make the trade happen, but they would be a team that should be at that "Bling" ready level that Giannis will be looking for. I think the Spurs are the most likely, but Houston also has a young team with lots of young talent, and can afford to trade some of them plus pick assets with some value.

Besides those two most obvious teams that have the capability and possible ready-built younger rosters that Giannis would be more likely to go play with, he may have different ideas. Just not enough info on what he actually wants, as in where he wants to go. He does want to be in a big market, he has said that plenty in the past. But let's say for shits and giggles he wants to play for the Lakers - Lakers have very little player value to trade out, and their pick assets are almost zero. It would take mulitiple teams, Giannis REALLY wanting LAL, and Milwaukee being willing to do him a solid and move him to his preferred destination. Not seeing it happening.

The Suns don't have any way of trading out of their mess. Beal is probably the worst contract in the league. KD is still great, but not what he was, and he is toxic and wears thin in locker rooms pretty quickly. Not a leader. So who is gonna trade young talent and pick assets for him? Beal? Nah. Booker? I mean possibly, but hell the Suns are pretty stuck, just blowing it all up is probably the better option.

Championship window now slammed shut. Happy we got the 1 title
I'm not ready to say that yet. We still have an in-their-prime nucleous of Tatum (27), Brown (28), White (30) and Prichard (28). I don't know all their contract situations, but it's not like this was an aging core making one last run. We'll see.

Maybe we dip into the lottery for one year and land another stud for the next run?

I don't see Brown here next season anymore. I think you move him for draft capital and let Tatum heal next season. Championship window opens back up in 2027.
