He’s quite the Democrat now, isn’t he?
He's definitely not fitting into any of the classic "molds", that's for sure. 🤣

Let me start by confessing / reminding you that I'm a tPB oulde, so my perspective on the traditional definitions of what a Democrat and a Republican are skewed by decades of observation. What used to be labeled a "Southern Democrat" would most likely check most of the boxes for what we currently perceive as a conservative Republican.

The "open tent" that Trump 2.0 (#47) has pieced together really blurs the lines of what I would traditionally define as a Republican. There wouldn't be a place for RFK, Jr., Tulsi Gabbard or others like them in that party. And the recent fascination with overspending by both parties to secure favoritism from the voting populace remains bewildering to me, so I'm not sure where to put that since Bush, quite frankly. A Southern Democratic President (Clinton) was the last President that I can recall to have a balanced budget.

My final thought on the matter: all of us evolve over time. The opinions and positions I held on political matters as a young man are different than I now hold as an old guy. My core beliefs and principles haven't changed, but how those beliefs interact with the current political landscape has. My guess is that Trump isn't the first politician to have his positions evolve as well. Doesn't mean I agree with all of his choices and actions, but I understand the "why" behind them better now than I used to.

Final caveat: I'm a registered Libertarian, primarily because I truly believe in the concept of individual liberty, but also because I grew to loathe much of what I was seeing from both of the primary political parties. I think there's room in our country for other political movements besides D & R that embrace a more centrist, common sense approach of dealing with the challenges our society and country face. I remain hopeful that others feel the same, and we can start smashing some of the historical "molds" as we move our great nation forward. Together.

Yeah I hear you but one side - really one person - has gotten us into this shitstorm.

I’m all for navel gazing on how we can become more civil, etc but at this current moment in time all signs point to things getting really, really bad from an economic perspective.

I’m going to put aside the other things, of which there are many, to keep this thread on track.
