Stock Market/Investing/Day Trading/Speculative Trading Thread

I mean, it's probably smart because Airbus has much better airframes lol

This seems like a pretty drastic move that will inevitably lead to everyone being worse off, no?

Short term, possibly... But if you had enough countries band together and actually do this, the hurt on China would force them to make changes, whether that's to monetary policy, worker treatment, IP Theft, or tariffs that they impose.

No different than if China got the right 70 countries together to put the same pressure on the United States.

Adults need to take over some point soon.
Trump sees everything as a zero-sum game. Global trade is about compromise, but to him, any amount of compromise is getting "ripped off." That just isn't how the world works. I swear to god he's got the emotional intelligence of a fucking toddler and it's getting worse as his octogenarian brain-rot sets in.

Some of this may be true, but there are occasions in negotiations where you have to do something drastic to get the other party to come to the table or make actionable change.

Lord knows that there are been a long line of administrations that have essentially caved to China, leading us to the place that we're at today.

Like it or not (I certainly don’t) but China is our largest trade partner. We need them as much as they need us.

Negotiating like this is just plain dumb/ineffective and only lowers our standing on the world’s stage.

There’s no grand plan here.

But they haven’t so…

I mean, short term, undeniably...long term, almost guaranteed. It seems more likely that you'll push SE Asia and Eastern Europe into the Chinese sphere and that means reduced trade, reduced consumption goods, higher prices, and more trade friction for all sides. It is a decoupling...so talking trade concessions seem rather silly, especially considering we didn't get any meaningful concession changes from Trump Tariffs v1. Just seems like an obvious bad outcome...

Yeah, I mean the whole premise of "trade deficits" as getting taken advantage of is such a ridiculous notion...but doing this just means your deficits transition from China to somewhere else at a less advantageous cost, lol. Fantasy world logic, imo.

I have a hefty trade deficit with my CPA too.

Which makes just as much sense as Trump’s claims of outlandish trade deficits driving these tariffs.

I think I've heard this before at some point...

The dude advising Trump on tariffs literally wrote a book about this plan last year
So what’s the plan?

And how does Trump changing tariffs as often as he farts play into that?

Let me rephrase: responsible adults need to take over.

I don't have a clue what the plan is. Didn't read the book, I just know it's out there.

When have we had responsible adults in the federal government in any manner the last 25-30 years?

They currently don't have to because they are able to manipulate their currency and their economy in ways that democratically elected countries can't.
…so the answer is still “No”.

I’m not defending China - they are scary as hell - but attempting to “negotiate” this was is so goddamn dumb.

You can’t say there’s a “plan” and then when asked say “I don’t know.”

Also, any asshole can write a book. Doesn’t mean it’s a good idea let alone should be the basis of creating trade policy on.

As to your second point, and specific to the topic at hand, this administration is anything but responsible.

HIs plan is decoupling, lol. He was also the lead on Trump Tariffs v1...
