Have a long time, older (in his 70's) friend, who lives in NY and has long been in the banking/finance/etc world. To the levels of being in meetings where the likes of the Waltons, Trump, Clinton's, etc were in many of these board type of meetings. He says tomorrow is looking like a 3 to 4% overall loss day again. I trust his prognostications.

I would be interested to hear when he thinks we’ve hit bottom and it would be ideal to buy back into stocks. Seems like it may be a while.

He doesn't really know, there is so much unprecedented flamethrower discombobulation right now, he says it is hard for anyone to know/guage. But he expects a very bumpy ride and unless this admin doesn't backtrack/backdown, lots of pain is likely in our economic future. And that is just on the tariff side of things. The rest of the chaos has yet to suss out in his opinion.

I will chime in to this thread if/when he has more to say or different prognosticatios.

Trump is the only republican I’ve ever voted against in any election. I don’t get the appeal for him. I was raised on family values and how evil Clinton was for getting a BJ in the oval. Yet this clown can do no wrong per my parents. And I bet most supporters of him are doing similar tight rope acts to defend him. The guy is not a good human being.

On these tariffs, I haven’t read anyone credible say this is the right thing to do.

Let’s break this down… we just “manufactured” a recession (not pandemic or event driven, but policy driven) which will cause millions of Americans to lose their decently paying jobs… to bring back minimum wage manufacturing jobs? And as someone has pointed out already, we don’t have a workforce for this because they all went to school for business or whatever. The trade workforce just doesn’t exist. It’s been a long running problem in this country. So, the jobs we are creating are lower paying, and fewer, and it’ll take years to develop the workforce. Fucking brilliant.

The whole "let's tax our citizens to punish foreign countries for selling us things we ask for in order to build things here that will cost lots more" does seem like a bad strategy from an economic perspective, so it makes sense that credible voices would be against this, lol.
