Coach Matt Rhule Spring Practice Press Conference
-Coach Rhule told Tony White that Nash Hutmacher shouldn’t practice today, needs to rest…he still practiced - miscommunication
-Wants Nash to get back to 330 lbs
-Jaylen Lloyd and Jaidyn Doss physically developing well
-Emmett Johnson is one of our most athletic players
-“he’s bigger, faster, stronger, big spring for him” - talking about EJ
-really pleased with freshman QB’s
-we’ve identified what we want to do passing-wise
-encouraging guys to study tape on their own
-expecting both freshman QB’s to be ready to start - “doesn’t mean they will start”
-Year 2 allows other players to teach young guys
-need young receivers ready to play
-new this year - 3 teams of offensive/defense during spring ball, “gives QB’s a chance to captain their own team”
-Stefon Thompson (Syracuse transfer) has had a difficult transition - didn’t come in shape
-Thompson has worked very hard, and looks better already
-“you don’t show up out of shape in the NFL and get a second chance”
-Micah Mazzcua loves to play football, very physical, still needs to develop in certain areas
-DeShon Singleton and Brody Tagaloa are not practicing and won’t practice all spring
-Coach Rhule believes Singleton should get a medical redshirt, they’ve written an appeal to the NCAA
-excited to watch every position group compete
-Ru’Quan Buckley is a fundamental leader, big natural athlete addition to the OL
-Want HS QB’s who can make a play, not just 7 on 7 guys
-important to give the young guys real reps
