I think the story is basically that we have an 85 scholarship limit and there are 50 plus scholarships in the classes of 23 & 24 combined. Plus we have some transfers that can't be cut and some 6th year players staying.
Lynum played good on specials & in mop up duty at corner this year. He needs to go somewhere where he can be a shoe-in starter like an FAU, Georgia Southern type school & put out some good film for NFL scouts.
Relative on the team told me Bootle is the best DB on the team & is going to be one of the best DBs in the country. Also said Nation is gonna be good too

Would make sense for Lynum to transfer then. I believe Rhule said that he would tell players if they had a chance to start in 2024. Looks like the answer for Lynum was "no."

I was just going to say they must be pretty confident in the young guys.
Bootle was tearing it up in the spring before he got hurt, and they'll need to get Nation playing since they already burnt his redshirt fielding punts this year.

As others said, I think it's as simple as he's been here quite a while and the young guys are good. He did play well in his chances this year, but I doubt it's enough to have separated from the young guys. In fact, iirc Bootle was ahead of him until his injury.
Secondary will be strong regardless next year. Bootle, Bretz, Omar Brown, Marques Bufford, Mario Bufford, Jeremiah Charles, Gifford, Hartzog, Hill, Nation, Safeeullah, Singleton, Benning...
