Breaking Rhule and Mickey

Who knows what this means from her crazy ass but here you go -

She is a loon, I think he needs to move on. Who is the idiot former player, doc Holliday on bighuskerfan? He of course claims he is Turd best friend and was pissed off they didn’t hire Mickey. I am sorry what am I missing that these idiots think he was the best choice for this job? Just baffling...

She is beyond crazy

I go back and forth on Rhule keeping Mickey.

On one hand he would be a great asset in recruiting and could act like a bridge to the new regime if all parties are on board.

On the other, there could be a segment of the team that starts talking shit on Rhule and clamors for Mickey at the first sign of adversity.

Though a totally different line of work, I thought I’d share this overly long story because it’s something that happened to me and is a first hand example of what I fear could happen if Rhule is strong-armed into keeping Mickey.

A couple years after I got out of school, I landed my what I thought was my dream job at an animal surgery center doing high stakes surgeries, basically as the right hand man to one of the most renowned vets (if that’s a thing haha) in Colorado. I’ll call him “Dr. Jones.” I did quite well to be honest and my success rate was higher than any vet there including Dr. Jones. A little over a year in, Dr. Jones had a stroke and as he recovered, I took over as head surgeon and basically ran the show. There were some things I didn’t love and I changed a few things in his absence, mainly some training procedures, but a couple other things as well like how many techs were to be present during certain surgeries and their roles. In my opinion things ran a lot better when I was in charge. In his 18 month absence, we had the lowest mortality rate of any similar clinic in the nation, we won some regional and national awards, and were selected to perform surgeries on some “famous” dogs including Bretagne, who was the last surviving 9/11 rescue dog. I look back and am very proud of those accomplishments because if I hadn’t made the changes I did, there’s a great chance Bretagne would have been euthanized at age 8 and some other dog would have been given the title of “last surviving 9/11 rescue dog.”

Anyways, things were going great but when Dr. Jones returned, he was a hair more cynical and stubborn than before. Not to mention he was missing so much fine-motor function that it literally became dangerous for him to perform even the most basic surgeries. Nonetheless, he changed everything back to how it was before. Within a year, our mortality rates were worse than ever and the shine on our clinic began to wear off. This all pissed off most of the vets and techs and secretaries to the point there was a mass exodus, including myself. I got pissed one day, presented him with my numbers versus his numbers and told him if he doesn’t at least meet me halfway and recognize some of the good things I did in his absence, I was out. He held his ground and I walked out. Totally burned that bridge and unfortunately took half the clinic down with me. And to boot, he was the owner/operator and I was salaried, so I essentially made the guy $150,000 more than he normally would have made while he was recovering while I made my standard salary with no bonus. Ass hole still basically told me not to let the door hit me on the way out.

Part of me blames myself for not being more tactful in his absence. It was probably a bit unprofessional of me to make the changes I did without his approval to be honest. But the other part of me says fuck that, I had the place running to its full potential and everything I did was in the best interest of the patients.

So back to Mickey and Rhule. My worry is that half the team is going to gravitate towards Mickey if things aren’t going well. They are going to look to Mickey for answers when Mickey is not officially in the correct role to give them the answers.

If Mickey and Matt are on the same page and there is a clear and appropriate separation of powers, then it could work. But there’s also a chance it could massively blow up in Rhules face.

The outlier is Mickey’s wife.

I trust Rhule to make the right call on Mickey for the long-term. It'd be ideal if the right decision was keeping him, but hard to say 100% from the outside.

I'm good with whatever he says, just as long as something stupid like money or whatever doesn't get in the way.

Turd should have never fired Frost early & put Mick in charge if there was risk he wouldn’t be here going forward
If mick goes, we’d lose basically everyone on the team we want to keep. Every recruit this yr we want to keep & surely close Omaha down for 4 more years when we finally started mending fences.
Mick should be given a 7 figure salary to stay on. He’s very important as a bridge to whsts here along with his ability to basically get any recruit he wants. Rhule doesn’t seem like a guy who can’t co exist with another alpha. & mick doesn’t seem like he’d burn a situation for his own gain
He came here under Frost, things were a dumpster fire when he came. He knew Ftost was likely done, so why come just for a year? Emotions may run high but even Mick admitted “the program deserves a national search” & going 3-6 & essentially doing nothing different than Frost (losing games we should have won & nearly blowing the game yesterday) just isn’t good enough to be named Permanent HC.
There’s probably some gamesmanship here to maximize his value. But everyone in the program knows how important a quality HC is along with keeping Mick here to bring in talent & connect with the team
It’s not uncommon at all for the interim to stay on staff if he’s well liked & also the best position coach on staff. It would be a colossal failure to not keep him here
The “well he didn’t get an interview” is BS. He had a 9 game interview & met with Turd weekly. Ws & Ls matter. He had the opportunity to make a bowl. Turd gave him plenty of runway to do it. Once Illinios & Minnesota happened we had to move on to a true HC who was ready.

Far be it from me to try to decipher WTH this crazy lady is thinking. But if she's implying that Mickey was done dirty in some way it can really only be one of three things (in her crazy mind):

1. Mickey was lied to about getting the HC job or not getting a fair shake
2. Rhule said he'd retain Mickey in the interviews and then changed his mind
3. Mickey didn't get an interview he was promised (this U is racist, they didn't give the AA candidate an interview!)

Priscilla implied that there was some insane shit going on in this coach search and I really doubt that (every coach search is insane in its own way). Mickey's audition was pretty straightforward: win a handful of games and you could earn the job; lose a bunch of games and you won't. He went 3-6.

Again, it's pretty straightforward (him not getting the job), so I'm not sure why all the drama. I'm assuming the boosters got her all lathered up thinking Mickey was a lock to get the HC job. But that was never the case. So she wasn't really lied to, she just listened to the wrong people.

Is this a thing? I didn't pay attention to this during the season bc I assumed the 9 games and weekly meeting with AD was your interview.

Nevertheless, NU looked bad when news reported that we'd never had an AA coach in any sport. If we didn't give the one AA candidate we had a "fair" interview that would be a small PR misstep by Alberts. Especially if the wacko wife is gonna tweet about it. And apparently Kareem Moss tweeted something about it too (the racial component).

Wow. That was a lot of inference from one sentence.

I’d say Matt and Mickeys approach are very similar. Seems to me they would hit it off well with lots of commonality.
