Breaking Rhule and Mickey

Dean said he was told today that Mickey will be looking for a 7-figure deal that has 3 years on it.

I say, fuck it, pay the man.

I'm all for bringing Mickey back but how many titles are you going to have to put behind his name to justify that pay?

I am not 100% sure he inserts himself as much as certain people make it clear that everyone should go kiss the ring after Callahan was made to look like he refused to do it. Though, I’ve been led to believe that Callahan tried and Osborne power moved him which was one of the douchiest things I’ve ever heard of true.

That’s kinda what he’s doing here by not going to the press conference. He was front and center when Frost had his. And, as mentioned above, he talks out of both sides when he said he doesn’t want to meddle but then publicly exposes what he told Rhule regarding keeping Mickey. Even if he advocated for him, he should’ve kept it private. By making it public it puts pressure on Rhule. That’s meddling 101.

I’d almost rather MJ not be retained at this point unless he can be 100% supportive of Rhule and very public about it - too many clamoring for him to be HC, too much risk of division - let Rhule clean house, do his own thing, and stay out of the way. We’ve never done that and it’s desperately needed.

That was 5 years ago and his health has declined pretty steadily in the last 5 years. The dude is in his mid-80s. Did we consider his “important appointments” are doctor visits?

Sure…but Rhule mentioned that he talked to him so they went and asked Osborne. Osborne didn’t say anything out of line I don’t think. Doesn’t look like he said “You must keep him”, just that he’s a good addition to any staff, which is true. With Osborne, he is dumb like a fox. He could very well be intentionally meddling, or could just be answering questions oblivious to the ramifications.

As far as him showing up at Frost’s presser, maybe Frost specifically asked him since they have a tight and long time relationship. Without revealing too much of who I am…if the Husker Sports Network gave me the football PxP job, I probably wouldn’t expect Pavelka to show up to greet me, though I’d love if he did. Would think nothing of it either way.

I only want MJ retained if Rhule legitimately believes he is the right guy for the job. I don’t want it to be a condition of his employment or a bone thrown to some idiot boosters. I like Mickey and will root for his success forever, whether it’s at Nebraska or not.
