I don’t want to speculate on that… but I think it’s interesting he lost his entire defensive hires besides Dvoracek after year 2 (I know the Cooper situation but still relevant).
I think White wanted to be trusted and some hires made that not the case. You can’t lose TW to a lateral move. Though I do agree even a TW defense takes a step back this year after losing the entire front 7 (they would have kept some of them if TW stayed)

Tony White was putting his name in for a lot of head coaching positions. He was looking to leave no matter what. He didn’t get any of them.
There have been rumors that he and Rhule had their differences and that may have played into his leaving. But not getting any of the head coaching opportunities may have also been a factor in his taking a lateral at Florida State. It gave him the opportunity to prove himself in another conference.
I thought Tony was a good coach. But by his second year, teams were figuring him out. He was no Charlie McBride.

Tony was putting his name out for head coaching positions in large part because Rhule wanted him gone. Rhule was actively helping him find a HC gig so they could part ways in a way that would make everything look good on the surface. Then Tony got offered the big bag to stay which-and this is strictly my opinion-made Rhule feel like Tony went behind his back and parlayed the outside interest into a bigger pay day instead of moving on like he wanted. I think Tony thought leaving NU was optional when it really wasn't.

People can blame the defense all they want but the offense has sucked ever since Rhule got here.

We definitely have young talent that isn’t there yet. The group you listed will be a core in next two years. The big plays were all plays where Biff's Butthole Surfers’s line moved our D line where they wanted them to be and our LB’s either weren’t there because they schematically followed another player out of their run fit zone, or they picked the wrong fit.
I do think when we play as much man as we do, and really any defense for that matter, you’re going to give up big plays in the run game. I still didn’t expect that and would like to look at 22 film to see what our back end was doing (prior to chasing). Was it schematic? I couldn’t tell you based off of the TV view.

I was going to stay out of this, but feel like another perspective needs to be offered…
The way TW acted because of this desire (to be trusted) is why he’s not here. When Rhule gave direction on changes he wanted TW executed it like shit, and then blamed Rhule for it after the fact. “He made me do it.” The players weren’t coached from a place of trust and belief but rather some external force was making them do something different and “dumb”. Of course it’s not going to work with that attitude.
TW was pitting his players against the team and Rhule felt that was a deal breaker and likely going to result in larger scale failure for the program if it continued.
Beyond all this, TW had personal issues he was dealing with. It could have fueled his negativity to being coached by his boss, I.e., the opposite of “don’t take your work home with you”.

I'm curious as to what ever happened to "only rushing the passer with four just like they do it in the NFL" We don't ever hear about that anymore do we?

I’m not sure if you are hinting at a point with your question or asking it honestly. IIRC, you have the TW perspective and are frustrated on his behalf for how things went down.
But I’ll answer with what I believe. Last year’s team was better suited to pass rush with four. This team isn’t.
That said, our blitzes resulted in only 4 hurries and 1 sack. Regardless of blitz rate, it’s not giving us the results we want.
