Who to hire..

I really like Aranda. Has high level coordinator experience and now P5 experience head corching experience and has his 5-1 team playing good against a Top 25 opponent today. Also only currently makes $2.5 mil.

I think he fits what Turd is looking for too. The drama isn’t there with him.

If we do end up bringing in someone else I just hope they have some kind of formation where our QB is under center, like an i-formation or something, because if I see anymore shotgun from the one inch line I might kill myself

And has Big 10 experience
I would add he would be a coach who would likely get Bill Busch a full time assistant position if he was hired. Baylor is Aranda’s first stop since Utah St where Busch hasn’t joined. If Aranda stays in Waco past this year, I could see Busch heading that way once his LSU money dries up if Aranda has an opening.

I really like Aranda. If you read stories about him as a person, it’s awesome. Soft spoken, but works hard and was known for kicking players’ asses on the football field in high school despite being quiet and often injured (his shoulder is toast at this point) He’s been nicknamed “The Professor” for how much football knowledge he has and he makes it a point to find simple ways to break down concepts when teaching. On top of that, he’s a very curious individual who is always troubleshooting and always tweaking to look for improvements. It’s almost like he has little ego and just wants to work hard so his accomplishments speak for themselves. He wants to surround himself with intelligent coaches. That would definitely jive with our fans.

My only red flag is his head coaching history is very small, and will be even less than Frost’s with a shortened Covid season thrown in that took away his first spring football. That leaves the door open for some blind spots to bite us on the ass. And unlike someone like #2ndChoice, one of those blind spots is not knowing if he can maintain a program’s success versus being just a flash in the pan.

But would definitely be less of a gamble than poaching some hot shot coordinator.

And in that time, he’s made several executive decisions that impressed me. Offense looking totally inept after a year? He fired OC Larry Fedora and other offensive assistants after just one year and brought in BYU’s 2020 explosive OC and OL.

Though hiring Ryan Pugh earlier this year to initially coach OL, then firing him a day later for unreleased reasons is a little sketchy. Might be a misfire he learns from.

I kind of had Aranda pegged as someone to watch if Frost gets one more year and he’s still at Baylor next year. After yesterday, I’m cool moving things up a year.
