The OL has gotten better ever year and they are not the problem.

If I watch one more shitty running back we try to convince ourselves is good run into the back of an OL when an average back would have actually seen where the play was developing I’m going to have a conniption.
I don't believe that the OL aren't part of the problem. I've a hard time believing that all our RBs are below average, I think they are average as is our OL. Really don't see anybody above average on offense.

They are not THE problem but they're still below average.
Bingo,
Have they improved from Greg Austin? Yes
Doesn’t mean they are a good unit. I feel they have gone from horrendous up to crap. SOME of that I think is due to injury but they need to be better run blocking. If they were good at run blocking I think they would mask some of Satts poor play calling.

I view OL as a principle weakness of this year’s team. How can you not given our inability to control the LOS against any level of talent that NU has faced this year?

What premier level talent does NU have? Who has Donnie recruited to address that talent deficiency? What does the OL look like next year given those realities - better or worse than this year?

Donnie is not the guy that NU needs there, especially if there is a change at OC in the offseason.

The OL isn’t an issue minus the guaranteed procedural penalties and minimal push.
I don't want to come off as trying to defend Satt, but our OL doesn't capable enough to run the ball behind against non-dogshit teams. Would like to hear @slattimer take on our OL and what Uncle Donny has been able to produce. Curious to know if he's seen much improvement.

I’m not a Satt hater generally. If you gave me $1.5 million to hire an OC I wouldn’t have picked him but I don’t get the Severe hate. Last years offense was amazing but this years is bad?

Lost me there Mikel.

I’m not willing to burn that entire room to the ground. They’ve gotten steadily better every year Donnie has been here.

All other areas on offense are bad. WRs being the worst.

When Aaron Murray can flip on tape and watch for 15 minutes and wonder what we’re doing there it’s evident there’s a problem.

Neither was any good. Satt was never a good hire and everybody but Matt Rhule knows it. Blaming the OL here for their OC not knowing his ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to play calling is ridiculous.

Actually he has recruited better than any other position coach on the team. They are all still pups though not ready to play.

Flesh this out for me

What would you like to know? Theres been better football minds than I who have talked about his complete lack of feel for play calling coupled with the idea he runs plays into defensive fronts that everybody and their brother knows won’t work.

He’s never been good enough to be here. Rhule is the only one who couldn’t tell that apparently.

Yeah, who are these football minds you’re referencing?

I wouldn’t argue that Satt is a playcalling wizard but I think he’s good at scheming mismatches. Not arguing he’s worth his salary but “never good enough to be here” seems like a dig that’s attributable to most of the staff. What resumes are worthy of Nebraska?

got any examples of these mismatches?

the only mismatches I see are DBs locking down our WRs while barely breaking a sweat

@slattimer has been somewhat vocal about it.

I don’t know enough to match him; but it seems every week we read about how stupid it is for Satt to be running duo into XYZ front, or how we were torching them with power and Satt is hell bent on running Duo.

Of the original guys Rhule hired very few are qualified. I will give him the benefit of the doubt on the defensive side because he’s had a knack for identifying coaching talent on that side mainly at DL.

On offense, Donnie Raiola was the one with the most P5 experience at 1 year.

Satterfield has never been good enough to be here.

I don’t want to get into the business of dragging out old takes because we all have been wrong about a lot. But Rhule having to adjust his offensive staff was the most predictable thing ever.
