Week 7 @ Maryland: Game Notes, Depth Chart, Etc…

Interesting stats about Maryland Football in 2025:

They've had 49 total offensive drives on the season that started in their own territory, and I'm only meaning their side of the 50 yard line.

They've only scored touchdowns on 9 of those 49 offensive drives which started inside their own territory.

They've scored 16 total touchdowns in 5 games, this includes a pick 6 vs. Florida Atlantic and a pick 6 vs Towson.. Their other 14 touchdowns were offensive. 7 of their offensive touchdown drives started inside the opponents 50, and 5 of their offensive touchdown drives started inside the opponent 35.

Now, I am not trying to shit all over the value of forcing turnovers or taking advantage of short fields. Football is a much easier sport when you can do both those things. But man, their offense might actually kind of suck.

One more thing to consider about the Terps is they have kicked 12 of 14 FGs this season. Their kicker is pretty good, but the fact that they have 14 FG attempts and 14 offensive TDs is pretty telling.

There is a rather simple formula for limiting Maryland's offense. Force them to drive the field and don't give up the big vertical shot into the endzone.

- Avoid the pick 6
- Avoid the fumble in their territory.
- Force them to drive the length of the field.

If that happens, I imagine Nebraska will hold Maryland to roughly 13 to 17 points total.

Btw... Maryland was up 20 - 0 at halftime on Wisconsin with only 104 total yards and 4 first downs. Wisconsin's first half vs. the Terps was as bad as Wisconsin has looked vs. an unranked team in 35 years.

What if we just never lose again?

Nwaneri, as a redshirt freshman, is better than Jwill and Butler combined
Yeah that's not even close. I don't think thats the real discussion though. Nwaneri and keep Butler at least would have been my preference. I just think Butler wanted to go home and play. James Williams snaps would have declined regardless.

Butler was Meh to me. He had one great game against Ohio State but other than that he was a non factor for most of the year. I would have liked to see Nash come back for another year (I think he had one more year if he wanted). I could be wrong about that previous point though.

I liked Butler more than most I suppose.

It will work out better for us in the long run with our younger guys getting playing time this year

JoBu’s defense will be nasty next year
Agree with the first.

Hope you're right with the 2nd. Lose some secondary pieces that now seem like will be hard to replace like Ceyair Wright. Have some young guys there getting experience too.

As long as Marshall and Jones are back at corner I think we will be fine at DB. If Jones leaves then that will be a problem.

I suppose it will also depend on what happens at Jack. McCullough is getting all of the playing time there and if McGahee leaves then we will have to dip into the portal. Or maybe forget the Jack and just move to the 4-2-5.

We could have Lendhardt and Nwaneri at DE, VP and Davis at DT, Shavers and Merrit at LB, and then Marshall, Jones, Guthrie, and then probably Benning and ? at DB.

Not gonna be a nasty defense but it could be pretty solid.
