It's not often you find many motivated matchups between two middle-of-the-pack Big Ten teams at this point in the season.
However, that's what we have here as the Maryland Terrapins take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers with bowl eligibility on the line.
Maryland was getting a lot of love a month ago heading into its game against Ohio State. Since then, its season has taken a nose dive, as it comes into this matchup having lost four straight.
As for Nebraska, it's turned its season around of late. The Huskers come in at 3-2 in their last five after picking up victories over two of the three teams that defeated Maryland.
While that type of college football math doesn't always work, could it be pointing to the value in this matchup? Let's take a look at the
college football odds for Maryland vs Nebraska and find a
prediction and
pick.
Maryland Terrapins
At this point in the season, we know what the Terrapins offense is going to look like. They've kept the ball in Taulia Tagovailoa's hands all season long, and that will not change here.
It also helps that Tua's younger brother has kept himself on the map with another stellar season. Thus far, Tagovailoa ranks 29th in QBR and 28th in completion percentage.
His ability to complete passes at a high rate will be key in this matchup because if that's maintained, the Terps should be able to move the ball against the Cornhuskers without having to take big shots.
Nebraska's defense is very solid. It shuts down the run game, ranking fourth in yards per rush allowed while also not allowing big plays through the air. However, the Huskers are just 54th in opponent completion percentage allowed.
So, as long as Tagovailoa can have time to throw, we should see him hit receivers with short to intermediate passes all game long.

Nebraska Cornhuskers
Matt Rhule's arrival to this Nebraska program did not provide the spark that many thought it would early on in the season. However, the man who has gotten this team on track is quarterback Heinrich Haarberg.
Haarberg has taken the reins of the offense and led the way both through the air and on the ground. While Haarberg is the player to watch when Nebraska has the ball, it's not like he's been the most efficient member of the offense.
He has provided very little threat in the passing game, and that has made the Cornhuskers the fifth-heaviest rushing offense in the nation. While Nebraska should get a decent push-up front, Maryland has been very stingy against the run, ranking 16th in yards per rush allowed.
The Terrapins could also sell out for the run if Haarberg is unable to keep them honest through the air.

Maryland vs Nebraska
Betting Pick & Prediction
This matchup has the potential to be a tight one. However, Maryland will be able to separate itself with its passing game.
Tagovailoa has been excellent this season, and his efficiency will allow him to find success against the Cornhuskers' secondary.
The Terps will be able to move the ball far more effectively than Nebraska will, and even if the game is low-scoring as the total suggests, Maryland will come out on top.
Pick: Maryland ML -125
