The reality of a major tournament, in this case the Copa America, is that eventually you get to the win or you go home situation. For the US it is now one game earlier than the latest possible timeframe. Big fucking deal. Last night Panama was in a must win situation which was two games earlier than the latest possible timeframe. It's only avoidable for a short time but everyone gets there so no reason to get stressed about it.
So, in essence, the US joins the "knockout" phase on Monday. If they want to do well in a major tournament then you will have to beat a good team or two....or three... anyway.
Argentina had to beat Holland, Croatia then France and they barely did it despite having the best living player coupled with a ridiculously talented roster. Big time soccer is fucking difficult. You have to run a gauntlet with bigger and scarier monsters around every corner. (College football will be comparable this year)
The US is nowhere near the level they need to be to deal with a tournament like this. And save the "Lesson learned" nonsense about Tim Weah's red card. That lesson is not learned at the Copa America. That lesson is learned in your first organized athletic event ever because punching an opponent in the back of the head has been illegal everywhere at all ages.
