UPDATED Harbaugh and the Pros

Seems pretty obvious that he’s “an NFL guy” at this point. Personally as a much bigger “college football guy” I can’t imagine getting my alma mater THIS CLOSE to being a dominant perennial natty contender and then leaving before reaching the mountaintop.

And honestly next year could be the year Michigan finally wins it if McCarthy takes the next step.

I agree with this which is why I think the NCAA violations are going to be much worse than buying a kid a burger. There has been a lot of talk about an ongoing investigation around tampering and I bet if they get busted on that one it’ll be much worse. If they don’t, then their going to “Copone; get him on tax evasion” it, and they’ll go down for buying and lying about burgers or whatever.

And let’s not forget, they won 2 games the Covid year. There was significant talk about him being a failure. The school stuck to him. I assume he doesn’t see it entirely that way, but I don’t think he’s holding a grudge to the support he got through his down years at U-M.

He’s selling high knowing that this team isn’t going to be in the playoffs three years in a row, and may be dealing with some kind of restrictions.

Given this is two years in a row that he’ll have preferred getting an NFL job than staying, I wonder what the school will want to do with him if he doesn’t get a gig. Probably renegotiate a raise and a higher buy out from his side.

I definitely understand why college coaches want to go to the NFL since NIL.

I could see this argument with the transfer portal but I guess I don’t get it with NIL. If anything it’s less time they have to spend worrying about recruiting because anytime NIL is the focus, the head coach is just sending them to talk to someone else.

It goes hand and hand with the portal and I should have included the portal part. NIL is an issue because it’s not regulated at all. When you have no rules it’s the wild Wild West. A guy like Harbaugh can go to the pros where no one team has an advantage.

True, but depending on the team, you might not have control over the roster and have to deal with a shitty GM pending the team. There are pros and cons to each.

From what I've read from national writers (like Bruce Feldman), Harbaugh wanted to leave last season to the Vikings but didn't get the offer. It was both a mix of him wanting to win a Super Bowl like his brother and the fact that he was a bit miffed when Michigan restructured his contract.

With the NCAA meddling in their affairs, I can't imagine him staying.

According to this article, the Panthers decided to go a different direction after talking to Harbaugh. Plus he also initiated the talks with the Panthers.

I wonder if he's asking for too much, either salary or GM duties. He's lost some leverage with the NCAA infractions that make him look desperate to bounce to the NFL so he should realize that in negotiations.

He is a really socially awkward dude, but I wouldn't rule him out on that.

Read this article today, looks like the NFL talks were just a negotiating tactic for contract negotiations. But it appears there is some friction between the AD and Jimbo.

He should just go to the NFL where winning is the only thing that matters. His personality is so…off-putting to most that he will never stay in CFB for long IMO

The off-putting personality may be what is hurting him with the NFL as well. The Colts don't seem to be pursuing him, a place where he has tight connections with Jim Irsay.

Looks like he may get his Michigan salary bump and we're stuck with him.

He had a pretty good run with the 49ers

You'd think that an NFL team would want him
I think an NFL team will want him and he also wants the NFL. If he gets the right offer, he's gone.

Seems that him and the Broncos could be a good fit. The Broncos are desperate and Michigan has it's issues with the NCAA, whatever that OC got canned for, and Harbaugh and the AD aren't on good terms.
