Transfer QB

Of the following potential QBs, which would you prefer...

  • A

  • B

  • C

  • D

If Minchy has less experience than TJ it’s not a whole lot less. I would think a QB that almost won the starting job at ND would be pretty on par with our second string with a few games under his belt.
Meh I’d rather have Pribula. Plenty of snaps on a very good 2024 pedo state team. Led a come from behind win against wiscy when allar went down. Went 7-2 as a starter& completed games at Mizzou. Battled bama well but lost 27-24.Nebraska needs to get this dude

He has more. H's been on a good FBS team and has been through two additional years of practices and strength training than TJ has.

Contrary to @TampaBaySkers asserting that I hate dual threat QBs, I’m completely aligned with the dual QB direction. However, the names “associated” with Nebraska have been ass and largely reflect a program not serious about competition as some believe those names signify.

None of the QBs “rumored” are legitimate threats to compete with TJ. I’m not resigned that he is the starter in 2026. Better kill it with a RB transfer and defense because we’re going to look a lot like an Cockeye offense next season.
My pushback on this would be that the two targets identified by tPB are Colton Joseph (who has been connected to FSU, Florida, and Georgia Tech since entering the portal) and Kenny Minchey (who has reportedly received interest from Wisconsin, Cincinnati, Texas Tech, and Florida since entering the portal).

While they may not be the A-tier portal QBs, saying Nebraska “is not a serious program” for pursuing them or that neither “would be legitimate threats to TJ” is a hell of a reach.

This makes a lot of sense to me, especially give what's happened over the las two years.

I am sure the current coaches believe it would be stupid to go with Anointed Starter again. That gives the QB all the leverage. If the QB wants to call certain plays to up his draft stock, he might well do that. He and his family might try to hold you hostage for more money or try to control personnel decisions. If the offense doesn't function at the level you think it should, there is no one else to play because good back-up talent usually flees when there is an Anointed Starter.

I can't see them voluntarily signing up for creating a situation that could end up like the last 1.5 years.

Going with a competitive room would help this immensely.

I give him some leeway too with being behind two transfer starters (Hartman, Leonard) and narrowly losing the QB1 spot to a very good QB this year.

Returning QB room next year:
Marcos Davilia
TJ Lateef
Luke Longval - walk on
Bode Soukup - walk on

It’s a barren wasteland with no hs QB in the 2026 class. Need two transfers one legit and a second that will add depth and competition.
I have 0 intel or nugs about this, but if we're shifting our offense to a dual threat QB style, I'd sort of expect Davila to also bounce. I could see 3 transfers being a possibility.

I would rather go with Minchey. I saw Pribula play enough. He was nothing special and Missouri isn’t sad to see him go.

Clearly not going for the home run and instead trying to find someone to compete with TJ and provide depth.

Rhule must A) feel confident in TJ, B) not feel any kind of hot seat pressure, and C) be gearing up to spend a shit ton of money in the portal and roster retention.

I think this is the right way to go, if it works of course. 😏 But seriously, if you think you’re just a QB away from being a playoff contender, you probably drop the dime on a “home run” type QB and player retention.

We’re not just a QB away from getting where we want to be.

If you could have Kleinholz
Why would we believe we can get him? There is at least some reason to believe we may have made overtures to him before and we were rebuffed. Also, he doesn't have to enter the portal until after Ohio St finishes its CFP run. Are we going to wait? What if we don't get him then - there will be some high-rolling bidders, I would guess? How do we know how much we can spend on other positions in the meantime?

Yes - we should take him over Minchey if we are sure we can get him and know the cost and we still have enough money to bolster other holes. But at least the first two things on that list are not likely to be the case.

Agreed, it seems like they’re saying we need to keep developing the lines and the team, and if our qb can be decent then we’re still way better off.

But I also don’t want to see them grab a ton of portal guys that jump the dudes they’ve been developing. Rhule has been adamant since day 1 that we’re a developmental program. 2026 is the time to prove it. Time for Sam Sledge, Carter Nelson, Caleb Benning, Amare Saunders, etc. to get their shot and for Rhule to put his money where his mouth is. Not to say you can’t recruit over guys or make a position better, but it’s gonna be year 4, if you’re really a developmental program you’ll trust putting guys out there that may not have stats or experience but have been building in your system.

Rhule is in a tough spot with next years schedule. You could easily see things go South quick if he doesn’t make the right moves with coaches and players this off season.
