Rhule is in a tough spot with next years schedule. You could easily see things go South quick if he doesn’t make the right moves with coaches and players this off season.
If he goes and grabs 15+ guys from the portal it’s gonna tell you all you need to know. He’ll be admitting that the developmental talk was either fluff or didn’t work. Or that they whiffed on talent eval.

I could see around 10.

Agreed, it seems like they’re saying we need to keep developing the lines and the team, and if our qb can be decent then we’re still way better off.

But I also don’t want to see them grab a ton of portal guys that jump the dudes they’ve been developing. Rhule has been adamant since day 1 that we’re a developmental program. 2026 is the time to prove it. Time for Sam Sledge, Carter Nelson, Caleb Benning, Amare Saunders, etc. to get their shot and for Rhule to put his money where his mouth is. Not to say you can’t recruit over guys or make a position better, but it’s gonna be year 4, if you’re really a developmental program you’ll trust putting guys out there that may not have stats or experience but have been building in your system.

IDK, it’s working pretty good for TT and Indiana. (Bringing in transfers and starting them over current players)

I say get the best players possible that fit your culture and play/start the best guys. If you have a good culture and you bring players with character and talent it shouldn’t be a problem. Quite the opposite I think. Players often know better than anyone if their teammate is better than them, if you the right culture players should be ok with backing up a better player.

At least for a season anyway 🤣

Should get canned

If we miss a bowl in year 4 he should be fired. Schedule doesn’t fucking matter if you can actually field a competent football team. If your team is worth a damn the schedule might stop you from winning a conference championship or going to the playoffs. A tough schedule is not an appropriate excuse for only winning 5 or less games.

I agree but will he? I have my doubts. If we get raped a lot he probably gets fired. If we win 4-5 games but the games are close they will probably play the Frost card and keep him one more year.

Pretty much how I see it. 5-7 with 3-4 blow out losses and it’s a 90+% chance he’s gone. 5-7 with 3-4 really close losses… IDK 🤷‍♂️

I am guessing we end up at 12-15, but I also think probably 5-6 of those guys will be guys who don't get revenue sharing. You can really only pay the top half of the roster out of revenue sharing. Signing those guys really doesn't say anything about previous talent acquisition as there are likely only replacing guys who were leaving because they'll never play.

If Rhule's plan involves anything other than letting Chiles walk on as an emergency back up, Nebraska is more cooked than usual
That would certainly seem like a huge letdown after the "we no longer have financial restrictions" comments

Everybody says this, but who is going to pony up the money to pay him?? I'm guessing that if your scenario is correct, he'll be hard-pressed to find a job that pays half of what he made here.

Ya, I don’t disagree, but obviously TT and Indiana nailed the portal talent eval too. We’ve been pretty bad at it and I think Rhule knows it, thus the Pat Stewart hire. Very excited to see his impact on our roster and how he goes about the portal different than past years.

How much would the university owe Rhule if he is fired after next year?

Listen, Dannen is taking us right back to the top where we belong....

....of the "Universities paying coaches who aren't there anymore" list
It would be interesting to know how much money we have wasted on head coaches, ADs, and assistants post Tom Osborne. I bet we are pretty high on that list.
