This point is very valid. I've mentioned it elsewhere on here, but I asked CEO of 1890 about paying high school NIL directly for commitments before signing.

He said they're hesitant to because of they don't want to sue a kid or his family if he signs elsewhere. But knows it's headed this way fast with can't miss elite kids.

However, he knew of several elite high school kids getting money from other collectives.

This will be a major problem in the future.
Should make that illegal as they aren’t on campus and contributing.

Yeah, not a huge fan of that. If you want to pick a hat, fine, but don't put one on and throw it away. That just seems disrespectful to people who put a lot of time and effort into people recruiting you.
Who gives a flying fuck if he wanted to fake out the Illinois fans. This kid (Hopefully) gets to commit one time, let him have fun with it. If any of the adults around him thought it would be disrespectful I'm sure he wouldn't have done it.

He can do whatever he wants. I'm saying he looks like an immature clown doing it. It wasn't even cool 15 years ago when they did that.

Well he's 16 years old and if you listen to him speak you'd clearly tell he's mature beyond his years. Regardless if it was cool or not today/15 years ago, how about just let the kid have fun as long as he's not hurting somebody. The only people that look like clowns are the ones shitting on a 16 year old kid for his college commitment.

Chill Max. I'll get you some Xanax if you need some. I don't hate the kid, all I said is I'm not a fan of the way he did it. Peace.

I’m with you. The fact he said that right after he committed is pretty telling. Pure speculation but I Wonder if he committed now because 1890 agreed to pay him while he’s in hs….
he committed two weeks ago. It just wasn't made public until yesterday.

He is already getting NIL in Illinois as a HS player. That's legal in Illinois. It's paid by 3rd parties.

I believe 1890 can't pay him money after July 1 (assuming that remains the effective date) and they can only find him 3rd party NIL deals, just like with everyone else.

Are you all really naive enough to think most recruits stop contact with other schools when they commit? Shit most of them continue to visit other schools. I’ve heard Busch say on the radio multiple times that when someone commits that’s when the real recruiting starts.

Fair enough

Should make that illegal as they aren’t on campus and contributing.

State laws and state high school sports associations have basically made NIL limitless for high school athletes on who can pay them and why they're paid.

Most of it's smaller dollar stuff like a school paying for a kid's living, food, and transportation expenses to play for a high school 2 hours and 140 miles away from his home.

I believe there are only 7 or 8 states who prohibit NIL to high school athletes entirely and a couple who have a few restrictions in place of at least 18 or signed a NLI, the 40ish others it's free game. Most states the only restrictions in place are can't have your high school logo or team name in any advertising, and can't be for alcohol, adult, guns, gambling, etc.

In an interview with his mom, she said that her and her husband have been handling all of the NIL information and weren't sharing any NIL numbers with Trae because they wanted him to make a decision on where he actually wanted to play football and not on the money he'd be getting.

Who gives a fuck.

He made an apology video to please all of you
Exactly. And with how many times this has happened to us over the years, it feels great to not be on the receiving end for once. I love it when it's us getting picked. Plus

I think we’re all spending way too much time talking about this and he’s a young kid that made a dumb mistake. But I would push back on the assertion by some that this “didn’t hurt anyone”. We clearly would have all been pissed had the tables been turned. Imagine if an Omaha kid did this lmao

They do worse haha.

It's like a little club of Nebraskan's that love to spite the hometown school and look for any reason to disparage it.

I can't think of anything like that here *in KS* other than maybe KU/K-State Basketball.
