That puff of air you just felt was
Nebraska fans breathing a sign of relief about the status of four-star 2027 quarterback commit
Trae Taylor.
The Mundelein (Ill.)
Carmel Catholic star announced on social media early Thursday morning that he will be shutting down his recruitment.
With everything going on with Coach
Matt Rhule many schools have reached out. I really appreciate the consideration and love,” Taylor said in
an X post.
“But I’m Locked “N” with Husker football. Any recruits that may be considering Nebraska I hope this takes away any concerns. To the fan base GO BIG RED.”
The status of Taylor’s early pledge to Nebraska has come into question this week. Nebraska coach Matt Rhule has been labeled by many as the prime target of Penn State’s coaching search after firing James Franklin on Sunday.
Taylor elaborated on his decision in a statement to me.
“No I have not spoken to Coach Rhule about this. My relationship with him is if I need to be concerned he would have reached out about it. He needs to focus on Minnesota not me,” Taylor said..
“Now I have spoken to everyone else in that building. If I would have heard any concerns from one of them. Then maybe I wonder what was going on. Then I would have called coach Rhule myself.”
Taylor was going to wait until the end of his season to post this. But once he started getting all the calls again from other schools he changed his mind. He has no intentions of visiting any other campus and didn’t want to waste any other coaches’ time.
“I felt the fan base should be at ease as well. I got many DMs asking if I was leaving asking me not to leave,” Taylor said. “Last I need the guys who are trusting in me to see I’m locked in. We have many 5 and 4 star ballers taking a look because I asked them to. If I don’t show I’m locked in to be here, we might lose a chance to get them on campus so we have at least a shot.
“So for me, my heart is with Nebraska. I know I’m locked in. I want everyone else to know. And I have such a strong relationship with Coach Rhule and that staff. If they didn’t think Nebraska was the best fit for me they would tell me.
