Thoughts on Volleyball Day in Nebraska?

This is obviously going to be a very unique and special event Wednesday night. But it seems like the hype is getting to be a little much. On the OWH Pick Six podcast, the guys said this game — against UNO — is bigger and more important than winning a national championship. Which left me scratching my head a little bit.

A lot of people, OWH, BTN, etc. saying this is going to change women’s sports forever. The main thing I think it shows is how crazy Nebraska fans get about a winning team. I think it’s more of a statement about Nebraska fans than some grand commentary about women’s athletics.

And it is going to be cool to see volleyball with that kind of crowd, but there’s going to be a lot of people with a very crappy view of a far away court. No one will say that though.

I love that Nebraska is doing this, and I don’t mean to be blasphemous, but some of the buildup is a little weird, IMO.

I think it's cool for Nebraska and really a good thing for women's volleyball, which is a sport on the rise. My wife loves it and I'm not going to complain about having an excuse to watch a bunch of 20 year olds in booty shorts.

I dont think it's some watershed moment in women's sports and I would agree it's primarily due to the fact that Nebraskans are fucking crazy about a winning team, any winning team. Vball has been a nice distraction from football being an utter failure for the last decade.

However if we're being honest if volleyball never won another game if it meant 1 natty in football I would make that trade all day.

UFC fighter vs. an actual boxer in a boxing match.
Celebrity vs Boxer/UFC fighter.
Midnight BB practice with rappers performing.

Bigger then a national title? That's a little overboard. Maybe it gets more general media attention than a national title, buts its certainly not bigger than one. I think its a big event for the volleyball world and for women's athletics. But I don't think its a watershed moment or anything. Its along the lines of playing a basketball game on an aircraft carrier or the outdoor hockey game. Still really cool but overall, I really think its more of a Flex by Nebraska more than anything.

I'll be there and I think it's awesome for multiple reasons.
It's huge for Nebraska as a state, Nebraska as a School, the volleyball program, and girls who look up to the players. etc. Why the heck not let the girls play on the biggest stage in the state of Nebraska!! Specially those that grew up in Nebraska! Dream Big!

Seriously though, I think it's great for NU and the sport and will also give additional credence to our fan base being the greatest in college sports. This sets us apart, just like the sellout streak, whether you believe it is manufactured or not.

Part of it is the bs idea that women’s volleyball or women’s sports can be cash cows like men’s in football or basketball or baseball & this will be a step towards that. Has nothing to do with gender & they don’t get that, ppl tuned in to the women’s national championship in basketball for one reason & without that, no one gives a shit.

Would rather our boys go through walk throughs in an actual stadium on turf (what we’re playing on tomorrow) with some crowd noise pumped in.

But duck we have 45 yards of turf outside our stadium to walk through on.!.! Yeah and these bitches have a court they can play on!

Dumb bitches want to hashtag “losing record” on twitter when their mad about the training table but then want to play in our stadium. Fuck em i hope they get beat. Burn volleyball to the ground and build a bigger weight room for our boys over the ashes.

I guess it's a cool way to feature VB, since that's one of the few women's sports that doesn't suck, but I agree the hype about it has gone over the top.

Wayne State vs UNK is a fantastic matchup and will still the show I'd assume.
