GM lowers 2025 guidance, citing up to $5 billion in tariff exposure​


  • GM on Thursday lowered its 2025 earnings guidance to include a possible $4 billion to $5 billion impact as a result of President Donald Trump’s auto tariffs.

  • GM said its new guidance includes adjusted EBIT of between $10 billion and $12.5 billion, down from between $13.7 billion and $15.7 billion.

  • GM released first-quarter results Tuesday that beat Wall Street’s expectations.
 
Some encouraging things...

- Annual job growth for native-born American was 1.1 million in April, even after adjusting for seasonality.
- Multiple job holders fell in April at the same time that jobs grew and the number of people employed also rose.
- Both full-time and part-time jobs rose in April as the labor force grew by half a million.
- Those not in the labor force (sitting on the sidelines) fell by more than 300k.
- Unemployment rate was flat
- Both the labor force participation rate and the employment-to-population ratio rose in April as more people joined/rejoined the labor market and got jobs.

Those are all good signs - I hope this keeps up but I am highly, highly doubtful this keeps up given that the tariffs are just now stating to hit.
