Spring Practice

His game speed didn’t show on the field. He might be faster in a race, but there is no way he is in the ball park with JoJo with football speed.
That comes with learning the position. He's either going to learn and get faster, or they'll figure something else out.

And some guys don’t have it at this level. He had plenty of experience before transferring up. I just don’t see it. Maybe he will prove me wrong. Time will tell.

He did have plenty of experience, in that previous team's scheme. He was an excellent linebacker at the FCS level. We can hope he was still just learning the scheme last year. By no means am I saying he's a sure thing, but they had to try someone to replace JoJo. They still have fall camp to find somebody else if Kris isn't working out.

We are basically just doing a regular 4-3 at this point.

DE: Tanner
DT: Rogers
DT: Robinson
DE: Nelson

LB: Henrich
LB: Reimer
LB: Kvoleric

Regular 4-3 usually includes one d end that's as big as the d tackles though, does it not?

Not typically. Usually just larger and more for run stopping support as opposed to rush end which is typically lighter. But it’s not a all size fits all type thing. Julius peppers was about 290 playing rush side for the panthers.
Just way more metrics to look at.

I think the trend in the past decade has been smaller, faster DEs to counter the spread.

Seems like the defense this year might need to use guys more based on who they're playing vs the "best 11" approach they went with last year, but I'm by no means and expert
