I've been thinking about special teams and the transfer portal and have come to the conclusion that Nebraska should always have a good experienced punter from now and always.
Because punting does not really not really differentiate between levels, Nebraska should simply offer a spot to whoever the best punter from the MAC, CUSA or whatever smaller division is out there. The portal basically allows for poaching players now so why not (for example) offer a good punter from North Texas or Georgia Southern?
Nebraska would get a proven guy. The player would get the chance to play at a bigger school.
Win/win
No more high school punters. No more experimenting with dudes from Australia. The portal has basically turned all small teams into feeder teams for bigger schools anyway so just start treating them as such. Nebraska had better realize this and take advantage.
Why punter? Because it's basically a plug and play position. QBs need development in your system often times, punters don't. OL need to gel as a group over seasons, punters don't.
what do you guys think?
